September 14, 2015 - The United States’ National POW/MIA Recognition Day is observed across the nation on the third Friday of September each year. Americans take the time to remember those who are or were at one time prisoners of war (POW) and those who are still missing in action (MIA), as well as their families. National POW/MIA Recognition Day is not a federal public holiday in the United States but it is a national observance.
September 7, 2015 - Those whom we lost on September 11, 2001, will forever hold a cherished place in our hearts and in the history of our nation. By a joint resolution approved December 18, 2001, (Public Law 107-89), Congress authorized the president to designate September 11 of each year as "Patriot Day" to perpetuate the memory of those who perished in the attack on America and to pursue peace and justice in the world and security at home.
September 7, 2015 - In honor of Patriot’s Day and the over 3000 people who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 all Flags should be flown at half-staff on Friday, September 11until sunset. Be sure to lower all flags as no flag should ever fly higher that the US Flag. If you have a flag that cannot be lowered you can tie a black ribbon or cord at the top to show respect for the day.

August 17, 2015 - August 31st, 2010 marked the official end to US Combat Operation in Iraq and the Veterans of Foreign Wars have added it to their commemorative calendar to insure the patriotism and sacrifices of this generation are never forgotten by the American people.
Shelby County Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8904 and the Ladies Auxiliary invite all Iraq Veterans and the public to a remembrance program to be held at the Veterans Memorial on the grounds of the Historic Courthouse, Monday, August 31st at 10:30 am.
