December 1, 2015 - It began when Japanese aircraft appeared in the air over Pearl Harbor, Hawaii just before 8:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, December 7th, 1941. When the attack ceased shortly before 10:00 a.m., less than two hours after it began, American forces had paid a fearful price. Eighteen (18) ships were either damaged or sunk, 180 aircraft were destroyed and 2,403 were dead and thousands of others wounded.
November 16, 2015 - By order of Presidential Proclamation all flags should now be lowered to half-staff until sunset, Thursday, November 19, 2015 to honor the victims of the tragedy in Paris, France.
If you flag cannot be lowered a black ribbon or cord can be tied at the top to show respect.
November 13, 2015 - In the early part of 2014 I was researching material for Vietnam Veteran Sergeant William Henry Eaden of Timpson, Texas. Sergeant Eaden was a career Army Noncommissioned Officer who was killed in action on November 12th, 1965.
November 13, 2015 - During the Joaquin High School Veterans Day program that was held Wednesday, November 11th, 2015, Shelby County Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8904 and the Auxiliary announced the post winners of this year’s Voice of Democracy competition.
November 3, 2015 - Public Law 103-308, passed in 1994, designates December 7 as “National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day” and requests the flag of the United States to be flown at half-staff (sunrise to sunset) in honor of the individuals who lost their lives on that day in 1941.

October 13, 2015 - Women in the military have a history that extends over 400 years into the past throughout a large number of cultures and nations. World Wars I and II saw over 362,000 American women serving during war time. As of 2012 women made up 14% of the US military and their role has changed significantly over the years from clerical duties to ground combat soldiers to fighter pilots.
October 5, 2015 - Per the Presidential Proclamation, the Flag of the United States is to be at half-staff now until sunset October 6, 2015, as a mark of respect for the victims of gun violence perpetrated on October 1, 2015, in Roseburg, Oregon.

September 30, 2015 - The year 2016 marks the 150th Anniversary of the First United Methodist Church, Center, Texas. If anyone has historical photos, documents, newspaper clippings, 8 mm home movies, video, 35 mm slides, etc. they would like to share with us please bring them by Chief Imaging, 614 Tenaha Street. Most items can be scanned on the spot and you will not have to leave them.
