April 27, 2016 - Treat your yards and neighborhood this spring for fire ant relief this summer and fall. Fire ants love to nest in home lawns, parks and ornamental turf grass areas. At certain times of the year, freshly worked mounds are noticeable and can be unsightly. During the winter months, there’s very little ant mounding activity and it is easy to forget they are there.
April 18, 2016 - When you think of 4-H most think of a youth organization that provides opportunities with the livestock, horses, food, fashion, photography, shooting sports and leadership, just to name a few. These projects are some of the banner programs that are offered but 4-H is more than that. This year, Shelby County 4-H has kicked off a new project, Taxidermy.
April 8, 2016 - A food handler’s course, accredited by the Texas Department of State Health Services, is being offered by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. Food Safety: It’s In Your Hands will be offered by the Shelby County Extension Office on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the active Shelby County Courthouse, 2nd floor community room in Center, Texas 75935.
April 4, 2016 - The Shelby County 4-H Photography contest was held on March 29, 2016 in the Shelby County Courthouse. We had a record number of participants ranked by the age divisions of Senior, Intermediate and Junior and judged in 15 different categories.

March 18, 2016 - Shelby County 4-H Clubs in cooperation with local veterinarian Mark Jousan will sponsor rabies vaccination clinics Saturday, April 2nd and 9th. Dr. Mark Jousan will be vaccinating dogs and cats for rabies.
Pet owners are urged to have their pets vaccinated annually for rabies. The Shelby County Extension Agents and the 4-H Clubs of Shelby County encourage you to bring your pets to be vaccinated for only $10.00 each.
March 11, 2016 - Dust off those walking or running shoes and join the 2016 class of Step Up and Scale Down participants as we “Walk Across Texas.” This 5K Fun Run and Walk will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 19 at the Center Park pond pavilion behind the baseball fields with registration open beginning at 7:15 a.m.
March 10, 2016 - The Shelby County Beekeepers Club will meet on Wednesday, March 16th at the active Shelby County courthouse, 2nd floor meeting room at 11:30am Mike Bordelon will show a variety of beetle traps and demonstrate how they are used in the hive to control the beetle problem. Bring a lunch and meet beekeepers from the East Texas area.
