CENTER, Texas (February 3, 2017) – Starting May 18, the Center Municipal Airport will be closed to allow for a major lighting project. The airport is set to re-open for weekend use on June 18 and will completely re-open on August 18.
February 3, 2017 - CENTER, Texas (February 3, 2017) - The City of Center is excited to announce that the widening and reconstruction of Childs Street is complete and will reopen on Monday, February 6 at 8:00am. Childs Street will now be a 2-way street with turn only lanes onto Tenaha Street.
At the same time, Fair Street will be closed to through traffic. Malone Drive will dead end at the new Portacool Park parking lot. Most of Fair Street will be closed permanently to become part of Portacool Park.
August 16, 2016 - Beginning August 22nd, Childs Street, beside City Hall, will be closed to traffic and under construction. The City will place barricades and detour signage. Childs Street will be widened to accommodate for two-way traffic, move the Tenaha Street intersection to line up with Foster Drive, and have a right-turn lane for school buses.

CENTER, Texas (July 13, 2016) – The City of Center and officials from Portacool, LLC will hold a ceremonial groundbreaking as the kick-off to construction for the new Portacool Park projected to open later this year. The groundbreaking ceremony will take place at Center Mini Park at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at the intersection of Childs Street, Fair Street, and Malone Drive behind City Hall.
Inaugural 22 Acre Site Has Full Utilities Plus Highway Access
CENTER, Texas (June 8, 2016) – The Center Economic Development Corporation recently created a Documented Sites program to increase the number of sites that can be developed for industrial or commercial land uses.
May 24, 2016 – Commercial development in Center, Texas, continues to be strong with the opening of a new 12,000 sf retail/commercial multi-tenant shopping center. The center is on the Hurst Street corridor which experiences a traffic count of nearly 15,000 vehicles per day.
CENTER, Texas (May 10, 2016) - For years, a 3 acre tract on Tenaha Street went undeveloped largely because of insufficient utility infrastructure. A new Chicken Express restaurant now occupies this space with a second adjoining lot available for commercial development.
