March 23, 2017 - A Shelby County grand jury for the January Term 2017 of the 273rd Judicial District Court met Tuesday, March 21, 2017 and indicted 29 cases.

Nickloas Rushing was indicted for tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, third degree felony. The indictment alleges on November 8, 2016 during a traffic stop Rushing destroyed or concealed cocaine by placing it in a styrofoam cup containing ice and water. The alleged intent was to impair its availability as evidence in an official proceeding.

March 22, 2017 - The Shelby County vehicle registration office located at the Shelby County Courthouse is closed Wednesday, March 22, 2017 for computer maintenance.

The office is scheduled to reopen Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 9am.

The property tax portion of the office remains open.

March 20, 2017 - A woman involved in a single-vehicle crash on State Highway 87 (SH 87) just south of FM 415 outside of Timpson has been flown by helicopter to a hospital in Shreveport.

First responders were dispatched to the crash scene just before 1:15pm Monday, March 20, 2017.

March 9, 2017 - March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and starting this month Hope Medical Community Center is offering free colorectal cancer screenings.

March 13, 2017 - The Shelby County Commissioners approved a DOT drug testing agreement for 2017 with Compliance Management, LLC at their meeting held on Monday, March 13, 2017.

The subject of DOT drug testing has been up for discussion at Commissioners' Court since the middle of 2016 and at the last meeting held February 27, 2017 Roscoe McSwain, Commissioner Precinct 1, questioned who would receive the drug testing report. During that same meeting Ann Blackwell, Shelby County Treasurer, indicated it appeared a medical professional may need to be designated.
