March 24, 2016 - One of the easiest ways a homeowner can lower his or her property tax bill in 2016 is to file a homestead exemption. A homestead is generally the house and land used as the owner’s principal residence on Jan. 1 of the tax year.

Homestead exemptions reduce the appraised value of your home and, as a result, lower your property taxes. To apply for an exemption on your residence homestead, contact the Shelby County Appraisal District.

Available homestead exemptions include:

December 31, 2015 - Notice is hereby given that a public meeting of the Board of Directors of the Shelby County Appraisal District will convene at 5:30 P.M. on Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at the appraisal district office at 724 Shelbyville Street, Center, Texas. October 30, 2015 - The Shelby County Appraisal District hereby gives notice that it will enter into a contract for a district depository as required by law.

Any banking corporation, association or individual banker in Shelby County, Texas is invited to submit an application for such depository by December 31, 2015. Bids may be submitted to Robert N.
