April 12, 2021 - Back in the seventies, I had an appointment to preach a morning service at The Old Salem Baptist Church near Newton, Texas. When Amber, my youngest daughter, said she’d like to go with me, I told her that my old pickup was not air conditioned and that all my tires were treadless “may-pops.” It was during one of the “leanest” days of my life and I warned Amber that it would be an exceptionally hot summer drive.

March 22, 2021 - Mother accomplished a near impossible task when she raised her ten children on so little ... no car, no telephone and often no food. Sometimes our food consisted of only what we could get hunting and fishing. We picked peas on the halves and cotton for two cents a pound, but were fortunate enough to have some better-off-than-we-were relatives that kept us in hand-me-down clothes.

February 22, 2021 - In the late fifties while I was a student at ETBU in Marshall, Texas, I was asked to preach at The Bonaldo Baptist Church in Nacogdoches County. The church was composed of the descendants of the early Spanish settlers: the Acostas, Molandes, Ariolas. The Bonaldo Creek and the Loco Creek ran near this community and into the Angelina River. The church decided to name their church after one of them and wisely chose The Bonaldo.
