August 17, 2018 - The Texas Christmas Tree Growers Association and the Smith County Agrilife Extension Service are sponsoring a Christmas tree growers workshop on August 24 from 1pm to 5pm at the Holiday Inn at 5701 Broadway in Tyler.
August 8, 2018 Overton — The annual East Texas Fruit and Vegetable Conference will offer professional and amateur producers tips on everything from Asian vegetables to figs and fertilizers.
The event will be Aug. 15 at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center, 1710 Farm-to-Market Road 3053, Overton. There is a $30 fee for individuals and $50 for couples. The deadline to register is Aug. 10. There is an additional $5 charge for late registration.

March 12, 2018 - Greg Grant will be conducting controlled burns on his pine savannas in Arcadia the week of March 12-16, 2018. In addition to creating a scenic, open, park-like pine forest, regular prescribed fire reduces fuel loads decreasing the chance of catastrophic fires during the summer; controls undergrowth, diseases, and insects; and promotes wildlife habitat for deer, turkey, quail, pollinators, and pine savanna species like brown headed nuthatches, pine warblers, Bachman’s sparrow, and endangered red cockaded woodpeckers.
