July 27, 2015 - Whether it’s a first date or an anniversary surprise for your bride, going on dates doesn't always have to mean draining your wallet at fancy restaurants. There are plenty of affordable and entertaining dates you can go on with your beloved. After all, it's really the time you spend with your sweetheart that matters and not how much you're spending on the dates.
July 24, 2015 - A food handler’s course, accredited by the Texas Department of State Health Services, is being offered by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. Food Safety: It’s In Your Hands will be offered by the Shelby County Extension Office on Wednesday, August 20th, from 3:30 – 5:45 p.m.
July 10, 2015 - The Shelby County Beekeepers Club will meet Wednesday, July 15th at the active Shelby County courthouse, 2nd floor meeting room from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Bring a sack lunch and come engage with other novice and expert local beekeepers as we share information on beekeeping.
This month’s topic will include summer hive management, bee and wasp identification and testing moisture levels in honey.
Possibly, we will have some queen honey bees on-hand to observe. Bring your honey to be tested for moisture via refractometer.
June 29, 2015 - The Fourth of July is one of America’s favorite holidays. And, why not? Families and friends gather to celebrate our country with food, parades, parties, and fireworks.
But there is a very dark side to this great holiday. For many, the celebrations turn from festive to fatal when alcohol-impaired driving crashes occur because someone chose to drive after drinking. In 2013, Forbes magazine named the Independence Day holiday “the most dangerous holiday of the year.”
June 15, 2015 - The 2015 Texas 4-H Roundup contest was held in College Station, Texas on the campus of Texas A&M University from June 8-11, 2015. Texas 4-H Roundup is a qualifying and invitational event for youth between the ages of 11 and 18 that have successfully placed in a qualifying event at the district level or signed up to compete in an invitational event at the state level.
June 1, 2015 - Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service - Shelby County will be hosting a 4-H Sewing and Quilting Day Camp beginning June 29 through July 1, 2015 in Center, Texas. This program is open to all youth ages 8 through 18, and you do not have to be a member of 4-H to participate. All materials and supplies will be provided along with healthy snacks and drinks.
April 30, 2015 - The District Five 4-H Round-up and Clothing and Textiles contest was held on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches. We had a record number of 4-H’ers enter in the virtual fishing tournament, photography, fashion storyboard, and duct tape designs contests.
A special thank you to all our 4-H parent volunteers for making this an exceptional experience for the youth of Shelby County. A special thank you to Ms. Charity Arwine for leading the photography project and to Ms. Alison Scull for leading the fashion project.
April 30, 2015 - (Album) - After 12 weeks of setting weight loss goals, learning to prepare and eat healthy and tasty meals, participating in daily fitness activities, supporting each other through ups and downs and many, many “five-highs,” the 68 biggest losers of weight in Extension’s Step Up, Scale Down program were recognized, and the top three winners of weight loss were announced on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 in the historic Shelby County courthouse.
April 21, 2015 - Blue Bell Ice Cream of Brenham, Texas, is voluntarily recalling all of its products currently on the market made at all of its facilities including ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbet and frozen snacks because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
