August 18, 2020 - Shelby County is currently seeing an all-time low of “active” cases of Coronavirus. This is according to Texas Department of State health Services (DSHS) that report any new cases, recoveries, and deaths to the Shelby County Office of Emergency Management.
We continue to report only cases, recoveries, and deaths that DSHS reports to us. We use no other source to report our numbers.
July 3, 2020 - Governor Abbott’s proclamation yesterday said that county judges have some authority over outdoor gatherings of more than 10 people. I have gotten many calls regarding different events, especially private Fourth of July gatherings. I personally feel we should celebrate our nation’s independence. I ask that you do so respectively and safely. There are health/safety protocols for practically every type of event and business at www.gov.texas.gov/opentexas.
April 30, 2020 - Starting on Monday, May 4, 2020 the courthouse will be closed during the lunch hour from 12-noon until 1pm, the hours of business will be 8am until 12-noon/reopen at 1pm until 4:30am.
April 28, 2020 - The Shelby County Courthouse will reopen to the public to a certain degree on Monday, May 4, 2020 at 8am. The hours will return to normal working hours which are 8am until 4:30pm.
March 20, 2020 - In efforts to help slow the COVID-19 outbreak, we are announcing a temporary closure to the public starting Monday, March 23rd, 2020 through April 3rd, 2020.
We will have staff in the offices to answer the phones and any questions that you may have.
March 18, 2020 - I would like to take this opportunity to provide an update on the very fluid situation surrounding the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic. Myself and the Emergency Management Coordinator, Kerri Shofner, are continuing to monitor information and participate in conference calls with The Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM).
March 12, 2020 - As the Emergency Management Director for Shelby County, I am working closely with the County Emergency Management Coordinator, Kerri Shofner. We are monitoring all available information from the State of Texas Department of Emergency Management, Department of State Health Services, and Governor’s Office. We are also monitoring information from the US Government, including an update via a phone conference on Wednesday by the White House and the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention.
December 21, 2017 - Shelby County Courthouse and the County Clerk’s office will be closing at 2pm on Friday, December 22 and will remain closed until Wednesday, December 27 at 8AM for the Christmas Holidays.
