August 28, 2023 - Shelby County is currently under a BURN-BAN. This means that outdoor burning is prohibited. The County has had NO significant rain in 3 months. Even though some parts of the county were blessed to have several inches of rain on Sunday, this does not mean the danger or the prohibition on burning is over.
June 22, 2023 - Governor Greg Abbott today updated the state’s disaster declaration to include additional Northeast Texas communities affected by recent severe storms causing widespread electricity infrastructure damage. The counties added to the Governor’s declaration are Morris and Shelby counties.
April 28, 2023 - The Fraud Team at the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) offers these resources for county residents. They developed an online toolkit to help protect residents from scam artists after a storm or other natural disaster.

July 11, 2022 - It is with great sadness that I write this tribute to Mr. Haley. I refer to him in that manner instead of Representative or Senator, because I had the privilege of being a student of his during his last years as a teacher at Center High School. He was my inspiration for pursuing public office.
June 27, 2022 - Shelby County Judge Allison Harbison signed a declaration of disaster and order prohibiting outdoor burning today, June 27th making the county under a burn ban effective immediately.
Judge Harbison did advise the fireworks show is still planned in Tenaha as the City of Tenaha is taking extra precautions with the fire department standing by at the celebration.

June 8, 2022 – Director Tanya N. Garfield of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Disaster Field Operations Center-West in May announced the opening of five Disaster Loan Outreach Centers, on the dates and times listed below, to meet the needs of businesses and individuals who were affected by severe storms and tornadoes that occurred on March 21, 2022.
April 14, 2022 - If you have any damage to your home or business from the storms on April 12 – 13, 2022, please document and take pictures of the damage. It is a possibility that residents of Shelby County would qualify for individual assistance.

February 3, 2022 - It is with a heavy heart that I write this tribute to Judge Jackie Kirkwood.
Judge Kirkwood carried his history in the way he walked and held his head. His military background and law enforcement experience were in his carriage and under his hat; he was a man of stature, of respect, and discipline.
