March 7, 2017 - The March meeting for the Shelby County Historical Society/Museum will be held Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 2pm in the Museum on 230 Pecan Street. The guest speaker will be Mr. Bill O'Neal, who is the Texas State Historian and a well-known author.
He taught history for many years at Panola College and will share a brief history on the Alamo. He has written many books about the history of Texas. Everyone is invited to attend the meeting.
January 20, 2017 (Form) - The Shelby County Historical Society is currently having their annual membership drive for 2017. The Museum is celebrating 57 years of expanding the history and knowledge of Shelby County. The cost of memberships are: $25 for individual/families; business - $500 Platinum; $250 Gold; $150 Silver; $50 Bronze or $1000 for Family Life Membership.
October 19, 2016 - On Tuesday, October 18th, a large crowd at the Shelby County Museum was privileged to hear an enlightening account by Honorable Judge Benny C. Boles of his years playing football for Center and Sam Houston State.
July 1, 2016 - The Sample/Metcalf family reunion. This annual Sample/Metcalf Family Reunion will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. for all descendants of John Sample and Jerry Metcalf. The event will be held at the historic Sample Cemetery located off of FM 2694 below Shelbyville. Relatives are asked to bring old photos or family information to share with the group. I can take a picture there so the photo never leaves the family's possession. Please bring a covered dish to share at lunch time and don't forget your chairs.
May 30, 2016 - New Harmony Missionary Baptist Church is hosting their summer Revival starting Monday, May 30th at 7pm. Revival services will be held each night at 7pm through Friday, June 3rd with a dinner following Friday night's service. Evangelist is Bro. Cliff Durham. New Harmony is located on County Road 2582, Shelbyville, Texas.
