April 19, 2016 - Texas A&M Forest Service is accepting applications for the 2016 Southern Pine Beetle Prevention Program. Through this cost-share program eligible forest landowners can receive financial and technical assistance related to reducing the threat of future SPB infestations and outbreaks.
Funds provided by USDA Forest Service-Region 8 and Forest Health Protection can assist landowners with conducting first thin operations in overly dense, pulpwood size pine stands in 23 East Texas counties.
March 22, 2016 — LUBBOCK, Texas — Escalated fire weather conditions will be present over the Texas Plains region Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Storm Prediction Center has issued an alert putting parts of the Panhandle in the “extremely critical” and “elevated” categories for wildfire potential.

January 29, 2016 LUBBOCK, Texas - Increased fire potential is expected in Northwestern Texas today through Monday due to above normal temperatures, moderate wind speeds and low relative humidity.
“Strong winds on Monday will be a concern as they follow on the heels of three days of strong drying. Initial attack activity is likely to go from moderate on Friday to very likely Monday,” Brad Smith, Texas A&M Forest Service fire analyst said.

Janaury 13, 2016 - The Joint Chiefs’ Landscape Restoration Partnership is providing $60,000 to landowners near the Sam Houston National Forest for prescribed burning.
The funds reimburse eligible landowners who have taken measures to reduce grass and brush, enhance ecosystems and protect homes and communities from wildfire through strategically-planned prescribed burning.
