February 3, 2016 - East Texas forest landowners, consulting foresters and agency personnel from the Texas A&M Forest Service, U.S. Forest Service and the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) met January 19-21 at Rayburn Country Club, Lake Sam Rayburn, to attend the first Longleaf Academy 101 to be presented in Texas by The Longleaf Alliance.
January 29, 2016 LUBBOCK, Texas - Increased fire potential is expected in Northwestern Texas today through Monday due to above normal temperatures, moderate wind speeds and low relative humidity.
“Strong winds on Monday will be a concern as they follow on the heels of three days of strong drying. Initial attack activity is likely to go from moderate on Friday to very likely Monday,” Brad Smith, Texas A&M Forest Service fire analyst said.

Janaury 13, 2016 - The Joint Chiefs’ Landscape Restoration Partnership is providing $60,000 to landowners near the Sam Houston National Forest for prescribed burning.
The funds reimburse eligible landowners who have taken measures to reduce grass and brush, enhance ecosystems and protect homes and communities from wildfire through strategically-planned prescribed burning.
January 12, 2015 - In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the National Forests and Grasslands in Texas is waiving day-use fees January 18th at day-use areas in the Angelina, Sabine, Davy Crockett and Sam Houston National Forests, and the Caddo and Lyndon B. Johnson Grasslands.

This partnership between USDA Forest Service, Natural Resources Conservation Service and Texas A&M Forest Service looks to improve forest health and resiliency on the Sam Houston National Forest and surrounding private forestland.
January 6, 2015 - U.S. Forest Service fire personnel will soon begin controlled burns in the national forests and will continue the burns during the next few months.
Despite recent rainfall, the forest is still recovering from the summer drought and controlled burning dramatically reduces the chances of a wildfire spreading out of control.
