March 21, 2021 - Officials with the National Forests and Grasslands in Texas, Sabine National Forest, have advised a prescribed burn with Helicopter support today only, located in Compartments 30, 37-41 (BLOCKS A - D) 4,943 acres, which is located in the Ragtown Area.
Winds are predicted from the Southeast at 5-9 mph. Also, we advised and long range drift may affect some of the areas.
March 9, 2021 - Officials with the National Forests and Grasslands in Texas, Sabine National Forest, have advised a prescribed burn, location in the East Hamilton Area north of Highway FM 2261, 1,648 acres (Block A).
Winds are predicted from the South 6 mph, Gusting to 16 mph.
Also, be advised a long range drift may affect some of the areas.
January 27, 2021 – The National Forests and Grasslands in Texas will conduct controlled burn operations in the next few months.
The controlled burn areas will be marked with signs as needed to include signboards and electronic road signs. Those near national forests may see smoke columns, reduced visibility in low lying areas, and additional traffic along Forest Service roads.
Deferred Maintenance Projects for Fiscal Year 2022
November 24, 2020 – The Southern Region of the USDA Forest Service is seeking public feedback on a proposed list of deferred maintenance projects selected for Great American Outdoors Act funding in fiscal year 2022.
May 22, 2020 — The USDA Forest Service today announced that it is partially reopening some Recreation Areas on the National Forests and Grasslands in Texas that had been temporarily shut down for the health and safety of visitors and staff because of Covid-19.
The following areas scheduled to reopen May 22 include:
Angelina National Forest (Camping and Day use open)
• Boykin Springs Recreation Area
• Caney Creek Recreation Area
• Townsend Recreation Area
April 13, 2020 – In alignment with current federal, state and local guidance for social distancing and to ensure health safety of its employees, visitors and volunteers, National Forests and Grasslands in Texas will temporarily shut down overnight camping in Wildlife Management Areas effective April 11.

March 26, 2020 – Effective immediately multiple recreation sites on the National Forests and Grasslands in Texas have been closed indefinitely for the health and safety of visitors and staff.
The following additional recreation sites will be closed and unavailable to reserve via Recreation.gov where applicable.
