November 7, 2018 - Many recreation areas and other venues in the National Forests and Grasslands in Texas will be free to the public on Nov. 10-11 in honor of Veterans Day.
“We honor our veterans each Veterans Day and every other day of the year,” said Forest Supervisor Eddie Taylor. “We hope that this time will serve as a way for our veterans and other visitors to find our national forests and grasslands as a year-round respite, a place where they can take time out for themselves.”
October 23, 2018 - The SFA Experimental Forest will close to the public from Oct. 27 to Nov. 9, for managed deer hunts in cooperation with Texas Parks & Wildlife Department and the Natural Resources Conservation Service’s Plants Material Center which is located in the Experimental Forest.

September 17, 2018 - The 10th Annual Angelina Wheelin’ Sportsmen Event for people with disabilities will be December 7-8 at Stephen F. Austin Experimental Forest, Winston Tree Farm and Alazon Wildlife Management Area.
The two-day deer and hog hunt is sponsored by the National Wild Turkey Federation’s Wheelin’ Sportsmen program, U.S. Forest Service, National Forests and Grasslands in Texas, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, April AWOL Chapter and Pineywoods Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation.

“National Public Lands Day is a great opportunity for families to visit our national forests, experience the beginnings of fall, and perhaps be motivated to join in with other volunteers and help us restore America’s precious natural resources,” said National Forests and Grasslands in Texas Forest Supervisor Eddie Taylor.
July 26, 2018 - The U.S. Forest Service is seeking nominations to fill four positions on the Southern Region Recreation Resource Advisory Committee to serve national forests across the Southeast. The committee is tasked with reviewing fee proposals for the forests in 13 southern states and Puerto Rico and recommending fee changes.
Potential nominees must represent the following forest-related interests:
June 5, 2018 - The Sabine-Angelina Resource Advisory Committee will discuss, recommend and approve new Title II projects and collaborate upcoming stewardship projects and future restoration projects at its meeting June 19 at the Sabine National Forest Ranger’s Office in Hemphill.
The purpose of the committee is to improve collaborative relationships and to provide advice and recommendations to the U.S. Forest Service concerning projects and funding consistent with Title II of the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act.
May 29, 2018 - The National Forests and Grasslands in Texas is waiving fees at day-use recreation sites June 9 for National Get Outdoors Day.
“We hope this free day offers an incentive to all people to experience the great outdoors in our forests and grasslands,” Forest Supervisor Eddie Taylor said.
Camping fees remain in effect, but day-use fees will be waived on Saturday, June 9 at these recreation areas and trails:
April 27, 2018 - Officials with the National Forests and Grasslands in Texas, Sabine National Forest, have advised a prescribed burn located in Compartments 29/34/35, 2197 acres (Block C & D ) in Shelby County.
