June 18, 2026 - This is a reminder that June is hunger Awareness month in Shelby County. Many people in our community struggle with food insecurity. Shelby County Outreach Ministries and the Senior Nutrition Site are seeking donations of canned food, non-perishable items, and monetary contributions to support local residents in need.
Food donations can be dropped off at two locations:
- Shelby County Outreach Ministries: 930 Shelbyville Street, Center, TX 75935
- Senior Nutrition Site: 124 Haley Drive, Center, TX 75935
June 16, 2026 - The University of Texas at Tyler announced six local students who were named to the spring 2026 President's Honor Roll. Five students from Center who are listed are Ashley Dollison, School of Nursing; Lucero Espinosa Bazaldua, College of Arts & Sciences; Taylor Gaddy, School of Health Professions; Monique Love, College of Arts & Sciences; and Abigayle Shofner, School of Nursing. From Shelbyville, Hunter Gibson, School of Health Professions, was listed.
June 16, 2026 - The University of Texas at Tyler announced the students who were named to the spring 2026 Dean's List which included two Shelby County students. The two students are Rena Clark, Center, College of Arts & Sciences; and Chezni Dominguez, Tenaha, School of Nursing.
To qualify for the university Dean’s List, a student must have completed 12 or more credit hours of undergraduate college-level credit in the awarding term with a grade point average of at least 3.75.
June 16, 2026 - The John Harris Community Fund held at East Texas Communities Foundation (ETCF) in Tyler, Texas, will be accepting grant applications now through 5pm Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
“John Reagan Harris was a generous benefactor, giving both his time and his resources to many groups and worthy causes in and around Center,” said Kyle Penney, President of East Texas Communities Foundation.
