City of Center Public Water System Maintenance Underway

January 5, 2021 - The City of Center Public Water System, PWS #2100001, will be conducting water system maintenance beginning January 1, 2021, and lasting until January 31, 2021. The system will be switching to free chlorine as its main disinfection.

This maintenance which is not a requirement, but is the recommended course of action set by the TCEQ/EPA for the accumulation of disinfection byproducts.

Fourth Week COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution to Texas Providers

More than 325,000 first doses sent to providers in fourth week of COVID-19 vaccine distribution, 224,250 second doses sent to complete vaccination for first week recipients

January 5, 2020 - The Texas Department of State Health Services has instructed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to ship first doses of COVID-19 vaccine to more than 949 providers in 158 Texas counties over the next week. The CDC will deliver 167,300 doses of the vaccine manufactured by Moderna and 37,050 doses of the Pfizer vaccine directly to Texas providers.

Application Deadline Nearing for DETCOG Solid Waste Grants

January 3, 2021 - The deadline for receipt of Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG) Solid Waste Grant applications is 4:30 p.m. on Monday, January 11, 2021. DETCOG anticipates awarding grants totaling $36,305.62 for FY 2021.

Each application will be judged by the DETCOG Regional Solid Waste Advisory Committee (SWAC) in accordance with the SWAC Project Review and Scoring Guidelines. This year there can be up to 2 grants at a maximum of $18,152.00 each.

January 3, 2021 - The old car in front of us was weaving in and out of traffic dangerously, and the occupants, a male and a female, appeared to be fighting each other. My partner, who was driving the patrol car, decided to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle to see what was going on.

It was in the early 1970s, and we were on patrol for the Harris County Sheriff Department, which is Houston, Texas. The traffic stop was on the East Texas Freeway around midnight on a hot summer night. The vehicle promptly pulled over to the shoulder of the freeway and stopped.

County Seeks Bids on Excavator

December 31, 2020 - Shelby County to go out for sealed bids on 1998 Kobelco Excavator SK200 LC Mark III (Serial# JQU0980) with 7,048 hours.

You are welcome to go by the Commissioner Pct. 4 Road and Bridge Barn on Hwy 87 in Timpson between the hours of 6am and 3pm.

Sealed bids must be in by January 8, 2021 and will be opened in Commissioners Court January 13, 2021.

Nearly 380,000 Doses Sent to Providers in Third Week of COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution

December 29, 2020 - The Texas Department of State Health Services is instructing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to ship COVID-19 vaccine to more than 350 providers in 94 Texas counties over the next week. The CDC will deliver 175,100 doses of the vaccine manufactured by Moderna and 81,900 doses of the Pfizer vaccine directly to Texas providers.
