Shelby County Commissioners Court Meeting Review

May 17, 2023 - The following article includes details from several meetings during April and May of the Shelby County Commissioners Court. At times, some issues addressed were covered in multiple meetings.

Just previous to the opening of the April 19, 2023 meeting of Commissioners Court, Shelby County Judge Allison Harbison opened bids received for the Precinct 3 Barn, which included two separate bids from Donnie Fountain, and one bid from Cornerstone Construction.

Joaquin VFD Reports Two Calls; Hosting Blood Drive May 27

May 15, 2023 - Over the week of May 7th through 13th the Joaquin Volunteer Fire Department had just 2 calls. Here’s a summary of the week’s events.

Thursday morning at 12:03am a page was received for a fall patient at a residence on County Road 3485. The JVFD medical team responded but had apparently received the page late as Allegiance EMS had already checked out the patient and was clearing the scene.

CR 4323 Reopened to Cautious General Traffic

May 12, 2023 - Commissioner Bellmyer reports water has now receded on CR 4323, with the exception of one section of the roadway that has some water at a depth of 5-6 inches at the deepest point.

The roadway is reopened to general traffic with caution there is still water across it, and drivers should use caution and slow speed through the submerged section.

The water is expected to be gone tomorrow.

Special Weather Statement Includes Shelby County

May 9, 2023 - A strong thunderstorm will impact portions of southern De Soto, southeastern Red River, western Natchitoches and Sabine Parishes, Nacogdoches, Shelby, central Angelina, San Augustine and northern Sabine Counties through 4:30pm CDT.

At 3:33pm CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Zwolle, or 28 miles north of Toledo Bend Dam, moving north at 25 mph.

Hazard: Winds in excess of 40 mph and half inch hail.
