February 29, 2020 - The Texas Department of State Health Services is notifying people who visited the cattle barn at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Feb. 11-14 that they may need to be assessed for a possible rabies exposure. A cow in the cattle barn developed rabies and was capable of spreading the virus that causes it during those dates. The solid black cow, a Brangus heifer, was being shown by a student from the Miller Grove ISD in Hopkins County.
February 28, 2020 - Early voting has ended in the 2020 Primary Election and 2,275 Shelby County residents cast ballots at the end of voting on Friday which surpassed the total number of early voting turnout in 2016 of 1,676 by 599 voters!
Bad weather is forecast for Tuesday, March 3rd election day according to the National Weather Service. Tuesday's forecast is showers and possibly a thunderstorm with a high near 73 and chance of precipitation is 80%.
February 28, 2020 - The Shelby County Clerk's Office will be closed for regular business on Monday and Tuesday, March 2nd and 3rd, to handle Election Business only. We are sorry for any inconvenience.
The office will reopen on Wednesday, March 4th, for regular business.
February 17, 2020 - Due to the construction on the Center square, Early Voting for the upcoming Primary Election will be moved to the Center Community House, 423 San Augustine St. in Center.
February 27, 2020 - The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office received a call from Heston Avery, 17, of Joaquin at approximately 5:30pm on Wednesday, February 26, 2020. Avery stated that he had accidentally shot his friend Angel De La Rosa, 16, of Joaquin.
Sheriff Blackwell said deputies and investigators from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene along with ACE EMS. Justice of the Peace Precinct 4 Jackie Kirkwood arrived on scene and pronounced the victim deceased. An autopsy was ordered.
February 25, 2020 - On February 22, 2020, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the Choice public water system, 2100005 to issue a Boil Water Notice to inform customers, individuals, or employees that due to conditions which occurred recently in the public water system, the water from this public water system was required to be boiled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
Updated: The water on County Road 3173 has receeded and is passable.
February 20, 2020 - Shelby County Commissioner Precinct 3, Charles Barr reports the following roads are flooded: CR 3267, CR 3737, CR 3520, CR 3373, and CR 3173.
Please use caution and if you see water over the roadway, turn around and don't drown.
