November 16, 2015 - The Tenaha ISD Junior High and High School Beta Club presented the annual Veterans Day Program on November 11th. The students presented a brief history of the wars America has fought. The students also set up an Honor Table to symbolize the veterans who did not return home from duty.
The Roarin Band from Tiger Land showed their support to Veterans through their performance of the “Star Spangled Banner” and “Armed Forces on Parade.” Band member JR Wagstaff played Taps.
Tenaha Third grade class honored all Veterans by singing a song about the Constitution. The Tenaha Fourth graders expressed their gratitude to all Veterans with their performance of “Thank You Soldiers”. Tenaha Band Director, Mr. Rhett Pilcher, concluded the program with a beautiful rendition of “God Bless America.”

November 12, 2015 - The Lone Star Baptist Church located at 2509 Elizabeth Street in Nacogdoches will be celebrating 10 years of Pastoral Service for Rev. Scotty Bland with a 2 night celebration.
10-year Pre Anniversary celebration on Friday, November 20, 2015 at 7pm with Dr. Jeremiah Moss and the Life Church as the special guest and 10-year Pastoral Appreciation service on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at 3pm with Rev. A.L. Horton, Sr. and Reed Chapel Baptist Church of San Augustine Texas as the special guest.
Both services will be held at the Lone Star Baptist Church in Nacogdoches Texas. Everyone is invited to attend
November 03, 2015 - "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9
When I enrolled in the East Texas Baptist College in 1953, I was a bit immature to take on any serious college schedule. I enrolled with a 17-hours schedule, but my fascination with fishing on Marshall’s T&P Lake and squirrel hunting on Cypress Creek interfered with my classroom attendance. Consequently I wound up with two F’s in my first semester. When the Korean War broke out, I was drafted into the Army and flown to Fort Bliss, Texas. That two years changed a lot of my habits and I returned to college a disciplined man.
Dean Thompson promised to remove the F’s from my transcript if I repeated the courses and passed them. I did repeat them and made good grades the second time around. I didn’t see my grade transcript again until I agreed to teach Algebra during a teacher shortage in the mid-sixties. (I was Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Mauriceville, Texas at that time). When Superintendent Miller showed me my college transcript¸ there they were: two big, fat F’s! They’d never been removed! I swore I would get it straightened out, but never did.
When I was a teenager, I walked into a tent revival in Center, Texas with a lot of F’s on my personal transcript. Evangelist John Rawlings said that God would remove them if I confessed my sins and asked for forgiveness. My life really changed when the burden of my sins was removed. They’re now cast “behind God’s back”, “buried in the depths of the sea and remembered against me no more forever”. Unlike ETBC, God promised to take the F’s off my transcript… and did.
One day I’ll cross the Jordan into the Promised Land and The Lamb’s Book of Life will be opened. And when I see my transcript, by the grace of God…
…the F’s will be gone.
150 Years to Celebrate, 150 Ways to Serve
November 6, 2015 - The First United Methodist Church (FUMC) of Center will commence a year-long celebration “150 Years to Celebrate, 150 Ways to Serve” in honor of their sesquicentennial anniversary beginning in January 2016. According to church records, FUMC was organized during the early part of the year 1866. The FUMC Anniversary Steering Committee announces a series of worship services and events to be held throughout 2016 to commemorate our church’s historic milestone including:
• Sunday, January 31, 2016: 5th Sunday Worship Service & Lunch – Rev. Keefe Cropper delivering the sermon.
• Sunday, April 24, 2016: Worship Service & Lunch – Rev. Carol Clifford Turner delivering the message.
• Sunday, July 31, 2016: 5th Sunday Worship Service & Lunch – Dr. Wesley Welborn delivering the sermon.
• Saturday, October 29 and Sunday, October 30, 2016: Celebration Weekend – Saturday will be a day of celebration with lunch at the church for members and former members. Sunday’s worship service will be delivered by Dr. Jerry Neff.
In addition, the FUMC Anniversary Steering Committee is requesting any vintage church photos from your family’s photograph albums, including the church building, weddings, Sunday School, choir, MYF, and other church-related holidays and events held at the First United Methodist Church in Center, Texas. Photographs can be scanned by Larry Hume at Chief Imaging located at 614 Tenaha Street, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or emailed directly to fumccenter@sbcglobal.net with the subject line “FUMC 150th Anniversary Celebration – Calendar 2016.” Please include your contact name, phone number, the year the photo was taken and any names of people shown in the photographs. The FUMC photograph collection deadline has been extended through Friday, November 13, 2015.

November 5, 2015 - The Shelby County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. in the Shelby County Museum on Pecan Street. The guest speaker this month will be Mr. David Swanzy. He will speak to us about the Elusive Historical Facts that enhance Shelby County traditional history. Everyone is invited to attend.

November 6, 2015 - Keron Jackson is an outstanding singer with an unusual background, a man with a voice as big as his personality. Of course, you’d have to either hear him or know him for that to make much sense. Jackson is a gifted musician who has dedicated his life to serving God through his gifts and talents.
Through his vocal gift, Jackson has been transported to opera houses, national singing competitions, schools, and churches throughout the United States. He has a powerful bass-baritone voice and a charisma that flavors his performances from opera and musical theater to spirituals, pop music, and gospel. Keron has performed the National Anthem at political events, including opening for Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum. He mixes his God-given gift of song with a powerful personal testimony of God’s grace in venues such as The Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Baylor University Bible Conferences, Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas and the Baptist General Convention of Texas Annual meetings in 2010 and 2012.
Jackson’s life experiences have greatly influenced his career. He found himself homeless and helpless but God placed people in his life who loved him unconditionally, taught him about God’s grace, and encouraged him to use his talents to sing for God’s glory. With their help, he enrolled in Panola College in East Texas and later transferred to Baylor University as a music major.
“God has given me a voice to sing,” he says. “I understand that it is a gift to be able to sing, and I’m thankful for it.”
There will be no charge for the concert, but a love offering will be taken to support Keron’s ministry.

November 5, 2015 - We the members of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Center will be celebrating our Annual Choir Anniversary on Sunday, November 15th at 2:30pm with special guest Rev.
