September 9, 2016 - FM 138 west of FM 1645 was the scene of an 18-wheeler crash Friday, September 9, 2016.

Texas Department of Public Safety State Troopers were dispatched to the scene as well as a Shelby County Sheriff's Deputy.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety State Trooper Brent Murray, at 6:40am a white 2009 Peterbilt owned by Premier Pressure of Longview and driven by Michael Dale Hemken, 42, of Waskom was traveling eastbound on FM 138 just over 1/4 mile from FM 1645.

Hemken failed to drive in a single lane and struck a guardrail with the trailer he was hauling. This caused Hemken to lose control of the truck which left the roadway to the right and struck a tree.

No injuries were reported at the scene and Hemken was issued a citation for fail to drive in a single lane.

The eastbound side of the roadway was blocked by a tree until the scene was able to be cleared. West Shelby Volunteer Fire Department and TxDOT assisted with traffic control at the scene. DPS Trooper Murray was assisted at the scene by Cpl. Trooper Jimmy Faulkner and Trooper Taylor Buster.

September 9, 2016 - A Center man involved in a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Street in Center was flown by helicopter from the Center Municipal Airport on Friday, September 9, 2016.

Center Police officers were dispatched to the crash scene  across from Creswell Street at 3:15pm and upon determining the driver was trapped, the Center Fire Department was requested.

The firemen used Jaws of Life equipment to extricate the driver and after about 30 minutes were successful in freeing the man from the crumpled white Dodge pickup truck.

According to Center police Sgt. Duane Gordon, Artis Polley, 69, of Center was traveling eastbound when, for an unknown reason, his vehicle left the roadway to the right traveled through a ditch and collided with a tree. Polley sustained major injuries requiring his transport by ACE EMS ambulance to the airport where a landing zone was established for a helicopter.

Life Air Rescue flew Polley from the scene to LSU hospital in Shreveport.

September 9, 2016 - The City of Huxley Public Water System, PWS #2100019, will be conducting water system maintenance beginning Monday, September 12, 2016 consisting of a free chlorine disinfection burnout of our distribution system. This burnout will continue till October 12, 2016. 

This is a routine maintenance procedure performed to help reduce the potential for unstable water conditions and insure high quality of water delivery to our customers. 

During this maintenance period you may notice an odor or slight discoloration, but the safety of the water will not be affected.

September 8, 2016 - The rider involved in a motorcycle crash on U.S. Highway west of Timpson is in Nacogdoches Memorial hospital following the incident on Thursday, September 8, 2016.

Timpson Police Officer Jake Metcalf informed the Shelby County Sheriff's Department of the crash when he was informed by a passerby that it had occurred.

When the Timpson Police Department and Timpson Volunteer Fire Department arrived on scene, good samaritans from Dallas were directing traffic to prevent another incident and protect the injured party who had been riding the motorcycle.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety State Trooper Keith Jones, at 4:20pm Samantha Kate Peterson, 30, of Timpson was riding eastbound on U.S. Highway 84 near CR 4800 on a blue 2016 Honda motorcycle, which she owns. She laid the motorcycle down and was ejected onto the roadway. The motorcycle came to rest on its left side on the eastbound side of the road.

Timpson Volunteer Ambulance Service transported Peterson from the scene to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Peterson was issued citations for improper driver's license for type of vehicle, and operating a motorcycle without proper head gear.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.

September 8, 2016 - DeSoto Parish Crime Stoppers Felon of the Week Program is asking for the public’s help in locating/identifying suspect(s) wanted from DeSoto Parish Area. In an unrelated case, DeSoto Parish Crime Stoppers Felon of the Week Program is asking for the public’s help in locating another suspect(s) wanted from DeSoto Parish Area.

Kelsea R. GolsonKelsea R. Golson, 27, of Logansport, La. is wanted for Theft of a Recreational Vehicle valued over $25,000. Golson is described as a white female, 5’10” tall and weighing 120lbs.

Desoto Parish Crime Stoppers is offering a reward up to $1000.00 for information that results in the suspects arrests, anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Stoppers line at 1-800-505-STOP(7867) all calls are confidential or contact the Desoto Parish Sheriff’s Office at (318)872-3956, Lt. James Clements in relation to Golson or, Lt. Chato Atkins in relation to the Stonewall couple.

 

September 7, 2016 - The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) was dispatched to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 84 (Haslam Strip) at CR 2787 where the Nu-Way is located on Monday September 5, 2016 at 12:45am. A vehicle had fled the scene previous to the arrival of officers.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety State Trooper Taylor Buster, an 18-wheeler that was traveling on U.S. Highway 84 was side-swiped. It was a 2011 Mack truck driven by Kevin Charles Wilson, 43, of Mansfield, La. for Key Energy Services, LLC.

The other vehicle involved in the crash was a Jeep whose driver disregarded the stop sign on CR 2787 at the intersection with U.S. 84. That vehicle was identified as a red 2007 Jeep driven by Mason Paul Naquin, 21, of Joaquin.

Naquin was later located and arrested for driving while intoxicated, and fail to stop and render aid or give information.

September 7, 2016 - Shelby County Sheriff's Deputy Kurtes Lawrence was dispatched to a residence on 1970 North in reference to a burglary on the 13th of August 2016. A description was given of a vehicle that was observed occupied by two males, one of which was carrying a television from the residence and a direction of travel. The case was then turned over to Shelby County CID Investigator Michael Griffin.

Kevin Jacob ZamoraAfter further investigation, the television was located and recovered and is now back with the rightful owner. Two suspects were identified as a Kevin Jacob Zamora, 25-year-old male of Timpson and a Curtis Lee Pugh Jr., 26-year-old male of Timpson.

Kevin Zamora was arrested in Timpson on Friday, September 2nd after two foot chases by the Shelby County Sheriff's Office with the assistance of the Texas Highway Patrol, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Timpson Police Department and the Constable of PCT 5 Robert Hairgrove.

Zamora was arrested for Burglary of a Habitation, Felony 2, and two counts of Evading Arrest and/or Detention, Misdemeanor A. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office would like to extend their appreciation for the assistance from the aforementioned agencies in apprehending Zamora.

Curtis (CJ) PughCurtis (CJ) Pugh, Jr. is currently wanted for Burglary of a Habitation, Felony 2 and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, a State Jail Felony.

September 7, 2016 - West Shelby County Volunteer firemen and the Center Fire Department responded to an early morning crash on FM 711 September 7, 2016 at 7:20am. The crash was dispatched in Shelby County; however, was later discovered to be in San Augustine County. Regardless of the location, the firemen responded in efforts to come to the aid of someone in need.

The firemen arrived at the single-vehicle crash 4 1/2 miles north of San Augustine, but the crash had taken the life of the driver. Traffic control was initiated by firemen at the scene while Texas Department of Public Safety Cpl. Jimmy Faulkner investigated the crash.

ACE EMS and San Augustine County EMS responded to the scene and were there until Billy Williams, Justice of the Peace Precinct 3, arrived to pronounce.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the preliminary crash investigation indicates a 2008 Kia passenger car driven by Lasharvia Edwards, 16, of San Augustine, was traveling south on FM 711 when the vehicle drove off the roadway to the right, then over corrected to the left, crossed the roadway, struck a tree and overturned. Edwards was not secured by a safety belt and was ejected from the vehicle.

This crash remains under investigation. No additional information is available at this time.

Garner & Sons Mortuary transported Edwards from the scene.

Cedric GeeSeptember 7, 2016 - Center PD patrol Officer Andrew Williams was on routine patrol, and Officer Steve Thornburgh with his K9 partner Taz were on duty working S.T.E.P. (Selective traffic enforcement program) on Wednesday, August 31. The Officers observed a White Dodge Magnum speeding through the Union Acres apartment complex parking lot at that time and the officers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle due to the unsafe speed. After the officers made contact with the occupants of the vehicle, it was discovered that the passenger who was identified as 31-year-old Cedric Gee had in his possession a small amount of methamphetamine.

At this point the officers continued to investigate where the narcotics came from. The officers learned that there possibly were more illegal narcotics in an apartment at the Union Acres apartments, and the resident of the apartment was not aware that the illegal narcotics were in the apartment. The officers made contact with the resident of the apartment, and got consent to search the apartment.

K9 handler officer Thornburgh utilized Taz, one of Center Police Department's narcotics dogs. Taz quickly identified illegal narcotics that were hidden in the apartment, and along with the illegal narcotics the officers found a stolen gun in the residence. Gee admitted to the officers that the narcotics and the gun were his. The officers also learned Gee was a convicted felon making it illegal for him to have a firearm.

Gee was arrested for the stolen firearm, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of controlled substance, and failure to identify.

Taz would like for the local drug dealers to know if they want their competition eliminated, just contact his partner officer Steve Thornburgh at the center Police Department and let him know who their competition is and they will eliminate their competition for them.

September 7, 2016 - The boil water notice for the City of Joaquin has been lifted as of September 7th 2016.
