October 8, 2018 - According to the Tenaha Police Department, at approximately 8:53pm on October 6, 2018, dispatch notified Tenaha Police Department of a stolen motor vehicle in the 600 block of Booker T. Washington. Within minutes Captain Joey Hudnall and Officer Jonathan Newton located the vehicle abandoned in a gully on Martin Luther King Street. The vehicle was recovered and the owner of the vehicle has been notified. The recovered vehicle has been secured as evidence pending an ongoing investigation.

October 4, 2018 - An order removing Jenny Hicks from the Justice of the Peace Precinct 4 office was signed by Charles Mitchell, 273rd District Court Judge, Thursday, October 4, 2018.
According to court documents, Hicks was previously presented with a citation to appear in court August 12, 2018, however, was not present on that date. Court records also indicate, the citation was filed since July 5, 2018 and is therefore right for default.
After considering the pleadings, evidence and argument of counsel Judge Mitchell ordered, adjudged and decreed Hicks is hereby removed from the position of Justice of the Peace Precinct 4.
As there is a vacancy in the office, and Hicks is no longer entitled to pay, or any benefits, including but not limited to insurance coverage derived from said office.
A petition for the temporary suspension of Hicks was filed by Gary Rholes, Shelby County Attorney, in the 123rd Judicial District Court in July 2018.

October 4, 2018 - (Album) - The 42nd Annual East Texas Poultry Festival (ETPF) is open! Ceremonies were held Thursday, October 4, 2018, under the big tent on the Center square.
Josh Payne, 42nd East Texas Poultry Festival Chairman, welcomed everyone to the opening ceremonies and introduced Allison Harbison, Shelby County Judge, and David Chadwick, City of Center Mayor/Farmers State Bank President, as well as Bryan Wages, Chairman of Chamber Board.
"This morning as the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce salutes the poultry industry for its enormous positive economic impact on Shelby County. We wouldn't be here without the poultry industry," said Payne.
Bro. Bobby Bressman, First Baptist Church, gave the invocation. Center High School band performed the National Anthem under the direction of Chris Smith.
Timpson Kindergarten students led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance.
After each of the ETPF Queen’s court introduced themselves, Abigail Hooper performed the ceremonial cutting of the feathers and the 42nd ETPF was declared open.

October 1, 2018 - U.S. Highway 96 North just outside of Center at the intersection of Loop 500 was the scene of a single-vehicle crash Sunday, September 30, 2018 to which Center Fire Department firemen were dispatched.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety State Trooper Cpl. Jimmy Faulkner, at 10:31am a black Cadillac ATS driven by Johnny Chavez, 31, of Center who was intoxicated at the time, was northbound on U.S. Highway 96 North.

As the Cadillac passed Loop 500, Chavez failed to maintain a single lane and traveled to the right off the roadway where the Cadillac collidaed head on with a guardrail. The vehicle then continued right off the highway and into a ditch where it came to rest.

Chavez was transported from the scene by Allegiance Mobile Health Ambulance to Nacogdoches Medical Center - Shelby Emergency Department for treatment.
No further details were available at the time of this report.

October 1, 2018 - State Highway 87 SH 87 at the intersection of FM 147 south of Shelbyville was the scene of a single-vehicle truck-tractor crash on Sunday, September 30, 2018.
Shelbyville Volunteer Fire Department personnel were dispatched to the scene for traffic control and Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) State Troopers were alerted to the scene to investigate the incident.

According to Texas DPS Trooper Brent Murray, at sometime just before 9am a green 2013 International truck-tractor, hauling a tanker containing diesel, and driven by Quinton Don Henderson, 40, of Fresno was northboudn on FM 147.
When Henderson approached the intersection of SH 87 on FM 147, he did so at an unsafe speed. Henderson took evasive action to the right onto SH 87 and the truck-tractor overturned in the northbound lane facing southbound and on its left side.

Henderson was transported from the scene by Allegiance Mobile Health ambulance to Nacogdoches Medical Center - Shelby Emergency Department for treatment of unknown injuries.
Trooper Murray was assisted at the scene by DPS Cpl. Jimmy Faulkner.
September 30, 2018 - Significant weather advisory for eastern Nacogdoches, Shelby, Southeastern Angelina and San Augustine counties until 5:30pm CDT.
At 435pm CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Rockland, moving north at 15 mph.
Winds in excess of 30 mph will be possible with this storm.
Locations impacted include: Center, San Augustine, Timpson, Melrose, Patroon, Martinsville, Bland Lake, Neuville, Macune, Etoile, Shelbyville, Zavalla, Chireno, Huxley, Broaddus, Jericho, Stockman, Chinaquapin, Hurstown and Denning.
Precautionary/Preparedness Actions
Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, and may lead to localized flooding as the storm moves across areas that have seen widespread one to over two inches of rain already this afternoon. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
Persons in campgrounds should consider seeking higher ground and avoid drainage areas and fast running streams until well after this this storm passes.

September 27, 2018 - Excelsior ISD is dismissing school at 1:30 p.m. today (September 27) due to no water. Parents may begin picking up their students at this time...buses will run at 1:30 p.m.
