In loving memory of Dave Edward DuBose Sr.
It is with great sadness that the family of Dave Edward DuBose Sr. announces his passing after a brief illness, on October 28th, 2018 at the age of 85 years.
Dave was born March 6, 1933, in Panola County, to Jennings Osward DuBose and Reba Rae Ware DuBose. He served in the United States Army and was a member of Tacoma, Washington Masonic Lodge #350 and First Baptist Church, Jacinto City.
Dave will be lovingly remembered by his surviving family: wife of 65 years, Dorothy Jean Crow DuBose; 3 children, Dave Edward “Crockett” DuBose Jr., Darla DuBose Janik, Carla DuBose LeBlanc and their spouses, Tammy DuBose and John Janik; 7 Grandchildren, Carly, Drew, Beau, Connor, Shae, Dalton and Carson; 5 Great grandchildren, Mary Milum and Rush DuBose, Layne and Abygail, and Kaydence Dugan.
He will also be fondly remembered by his remaining 2 brothers, Ben and Ray DuBose; 1 sister, Martha Anthony Byrd (Sissy); Sisters-in-law, Helen and Virginia and numerous nieces and nephews; relatives and friends.
He was pre-deceased by his beloved Father, Jennings Osward DuBose; and Mother, Reba Rae Ware DuBose; brothers: Jennings, Bryan, Bill, and Baby J.O.; sisters: Claudia Harper, Jean Ballard, and Mary Sue Chereene; as well as their respective spouses and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. Nov. 2, 2018 at Woods United Methodist Church, 383 CR 425, Tenaha, TX 75974 in Woods Community, Panola County.
Graveside service in honor of Dave will follow at 12:00 noon at Woods Cemetery with Bro. Mac Anthony officiating the service.
Post reception, with lunch provided, to be held at the Woods United Methodist Church fellowship hall.
Pallbearers will be Mr. DuBose’s grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be Howard Ballard, Raymond Harper, Chuck DuBose, Dwayne Land and John Janik.

Gene Hudman, 89, of Timpson, Texas passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2018, surrounded by loved ones. Born March 25, 1929, in Caledonia, Texas to the late Ernest and Ethel (Taylor) Hudman.
Funeral service will be held at 11AM on Friday, October 26, 2018 at Taylor Funeral Home, with Bro. Ronnie Sowell and Bro. Jimmy Nix officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018 from 9AM – 11AM at Taylor Funeral Home, Timpson,Texas. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Timpson, Texas.
Gene was born and raised in Rusk County near Caledonia. After graduating from Mt. Enterprise High School, he entered the United States Armed Forces serving his great country. Gene met the love of his life, Eloise Mills, and the two were married in 1950, together spending more than 68 wonderful years together. Gene was a very kind, loving man. He devoted lots of his time to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Whether it was watching them under the Friday night lights march or play football he was always present. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was a very kind, loving man, helping lots of folks throughout the years. If Gene told you something, it was going to be just that. His word was worth everything. He enjoyed the outdoors, whether he was fishing, or tending to his cows. One of his favorites was giving out Georges, $1 bills, to the children whom he thought so much of and loved dearly.
Gene is survived by his loving wife, Eloise Mills Hudman; daughters, Marianne Hancock and husband Huey, Melanie Rader and husband Jim; grandchildren, Philip Hudman, Stephen Hancock and wife Ginny, Justin Hancock and wife Laura, Jennifer Hudman, Adam Hudman, Kaylie Rader, Kaela Hudman, Kristyn Rader; great granchildren, Samuel Hancock, Dallas Messer, Madalyn Hancock, Abigail Hancock, Bryce Hancock; and a host of family and friends that will miss him dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Ethel Taylor Hudman; son, Donald Gene Hudman; grandson, Andrew Hancock; brothers, Harvey Hudman, Barna Hudman, Troy Hudman, Noble Hudman, Claude Hudman, Adrian Hudman, Billy Joe Hudman; sisters, Madge Acrey, and Marie Nix.

William “Wolf” Magness, 70, of Center, passed away Sunday, October 21, 2018, in Shreveport.

William “Wolf” Magness was born in Center, Texas, on January 26, 1948, to Fred and Inez Magness. He was raised in Timpson, Texas, where he graduated from high school in 1966. In 1979, he married Ann Crawford Magness. He worked as a drywall finish contractor. His hobbies included reading and gardening. Always planting a very large garden, he generously shared his produce with his family and friends. If you really knew him, you knew the nuances of his personality that really made him who he was. He could tell a joke in such a way you knew he wouldn’t mess up the punchline. He’d start telling you something and have you going for a while before you realized he was just pulling your leg. Even in his sickest final days in the hospital, he still picked with the nurses and staff and his sense of humor shone through his pain. Whatever name you knew him by, and he seemed to go by many—Wolf, Freddy or Bill—you knew he was a good man with a great sense of humor. He could carry on conversation with just about anybody, and he was a good storyteller. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandson, Jacob (who he called Bullet), who he loved to take on rides in the pasture to set and check hog traps.

Linda Milford Askins, 74, of Timpson, Texas passed away Sunday, October 21, 2018, surrounded by loved ones. Funeral service will be held at 3 PM on Monday, October 22, 2018 at Corinth Baptist Church, with Bro. Ronnie Sowell officiating. Interment will follow in Corinth Cemetery, Timpson, Texas. Born November 22, 1943, in Houston, Texas to the late Arthur and Emma (Ramsey) Milford.
Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 2PM until service time at Corinth Church, Timpson, Texas.
Linda was born in Houston, Texas, on November 22, 1943, moved to Timpson in the Shady Grove Community and attended Timpson ISD until 1960. She later earned her GED at Kilgore College. During many adult years spent in Longview, she used her nurturing nature to be a caregiver for numerous people. She and her clients traveled extensively throughout the United States.
Linda lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting and visiting with friends, spending time with family, cooking, and indulging in her passion for collecting many things, including jewelry, angels, glassware, and attending her church, Good Hope Baptist Church.
Linda is survived by her husband, Charles Askins; children, Marty Hudson, Tammy Hudson Marlowe, Jeff Hudson; grandchildren, Morgan Hudson, Paige Hudson, Gunnar Hudson, Gavin Hudson, Chris Herrin, David Williams Jr., Douglas Williams, Ciara Brannon and husband Jackson, Blake Hudson and wife Handa; great grandchildren, Harley Herrin, Coy Hudson, Cason Johnson, Trip Herrin, Cody Cash Herrin, Raelynn Nutter; brother in law, Ken Ramsey; and a host of family and friends that will miss her dearly.

Born, December 10, 1945, in Center, Texas to the late Arbie Alec and Zelma Viola (Wilkinson) Flournoy.
Betty grew up in a very large family. One of ten children, she and her family moved a lot during her childhood before settling in Timpson where she graduated from Timpson High School Class of 1964. She met George when they were both young and knew that he was a God send for her life. The two were married on June 27, 1970 and have remained faithful to the vows they promised, “For better or worse, in sickness and in health.” The journey together over the years was not always easy, but with God at the forefront, the two were able to face every joy, every challenge and every day with strength and courage. Betty never met a stranger. Her sense of humor always kept people laughing and was a warm welcome to anyone who knew her. Her favorite hobby was reading. She always looked forward to new books making their way into the library because she had pretty much read all of the other books. More than anything, Betty treasured each and every second spent with her grandchildren. They were the lights of her life and brought so much joy to her. She was a member of Timpson Missionary Baptist Church.
Betty had a long and strenuous battle with cancer. Although many days were difficult, she and her family drew closer to God for His strength, guidance and understanding until the moment He called her home. Her life has been a true example of Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

Joy Aline Wagstaff, 88, of Shelbyville, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2018, in Nacogdoches.
Funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, October 21, 2018, at Dreka Pentecostal Church in the Dreka Community of Shelby County with Bro. Lamar Denby and Bro. Don Windham officiating. Interment will follow at Reynolds Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the church.
Mrs. Wagstaff was born April 6, 1930, in San Augustine County, to Marion Henley and Ethel Mae Loggins Henley. She enjoyed singing gospel songs, fishing, camping with her husband, and spending time with her family. She was a member of Dreka Pentecostal Church.

Glenda Faye Bowlin Kaura, 78, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, October 15, 2018, at her residence.

Mrs. Kaura was born January 20, 1940, in Tenaha, to Jesse Dean Bowlin and Reba Irene Philips Bowlin. She retired from Joaquin ISD after 32 years of teaching. Her hobbies included playing the piano and helping others in any way she saw necessary. She was involved in and supported numerous fundraisers throughout her community. Mrs. Kaura loved her Lord and served Him as a faithful member of Smyrna Missionary Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and played the piano for many years.

Joe Cruz Pena, 82, of Nacogdoches, Texas, passed away on October 11, 2018, at Nacogdoches Medical Center. He was born on May 3, 1936, in Texas City, Texas, to parents Roque V. Pena and Maria Velasquez Pena.
Upon losing his mother in 1941, he went to live with his Uncle Santiago Velasquez and Aunt Felipa with their 5 children. He was considered one of their children from then on.
He graduated from Texas City High School in 1957. Many of his classmates wrote that he was a ‘swell guy and cutup’. He served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves from 1954 to 1962.
On August 31, 1965, Joe married the love of his life, Hilda Samford Pena, whom he met at Maddings Drug Store in Texas City, Texas. They were married for 53 years and went everywhere together. In 1969, they had their only child, Anthony D. Pena. He graduated from Gulf Coast College with a diploma in General Drafting and Design in May 1967. Joe worked from 1966 to 1978 for Harris County Flood Control. Then in 1978, Joe went to work with the Department of Veterans Affairs in San Juan, Puerto Rico; Washington, DC; Waco, TX, and then back in Washington, DC. Joe retired from VA in 1994 and the family moved to Timpson, TX. They sold their farm in 2012 and moved to Nacogdoches, TX.
Joe was an avid philatelist and numismatic (stamp and coin collector). While his son was in Boy Scouts, Joe served as an Assistant BS leader. Upon retirement he became active in the Timpson Lions Club where he served as Secretary Treasurer and then President. He also loved to play quarter slots at the casino for his birthday and anniversary celebrations.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Hilda Pena of Nacogdoches; son, Anthony D. Pena and wife Eunice Appelt Pena of Katy; brothers, Joe Velasquez of Texas City and Roque Pena, Jr., and wife Regina of Beaumont; numerous cousins, and nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by parents: Roque Pena, Sr., and Maria Velasquez Pena; and Santiago Velasquez and Felipa Zapata Velasquez; sister Andrea Pena; brothers, Santiago Pena and Jimmy Velasquez; sisters Mary Melchor, Geneva Hernandez and Isabel Ortiz; father-in-law, Duke Perkins Samford; mother-in-law, Annie Mae Samford DeJohn; brother-in-law, Billy Samford and wife, Shirley Wilson Samford.
Graveside Inurnment will be held at Galveston County Memorial Park Cemetery, Hitchcock, TX, at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 18, 2018 with Jean Ferraro, a family friend, presiding.

Dale P. Horne, 73, of Center, Texas, passed away on October 11, 2018 in Center. He was born on April 29, 1945 in the Neuville Community to Emmett Kenneth Horne and Gertrude Horne Buck. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 15, 2018 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Lamar Rash and Bro. James Goodwyn officiating. Interment will follow at Neuville Cemetery.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at Mangum Funeral Home.
Dale grew up in Neuville, Texas and graduated from Center High School. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country honorably for three years. When Dale returned home from the military, he enrolled in Panola College and received his Associates degree. He accepted a position at Holly Farms and was Tyson Plant Superintendent until retirement. Sitting still just wasn’t for Dale so he decided to stay busy as a truck driver which he thoroughly enjoyed. Dale attended a Christmas party in the early 70’s where his friends had set him up to meet Anne Goodwyn. That night would be the first of a lifetime of dates. The two were smitten and on November 25, 1972 they were married. The next 41 years would be a story filled with laughter, tears, joy and some heartache but most of all, overflowing with beautiful memories.
Pa Dale, as his grandbabies would call him, loved spending time with his family and friends more than anything. He also liked fishing in Shreveport, keeping up with the weather, reading western novels, watching western movies and keeping up with the latest on Fox News. His deep voice was a calm and comforting sound to all who knew and loved him. Pa Dale was a kind and caring man who knew what it was like to fight tough battles in life but to fight them with strength and humility. He took pride in being a devoted father, a loving husband, a loyal brother and a doting Pa Dale.
Dale is survived by his son, Howard Ray Griffin and wife, Kerri of Center; sisters, Carolyn Lamb and husband, Burley of Center and Joan Andrews of Center; grandchildren, Keni Bradshaw and husband, Jake of Shelbyville, Kelsi Wilburn and husband, Sawyer of Shelbyville and Kaci Griffin of Shelbyville; great-grandchildren, Jason Tate Bradshaw and Kooper Lane Bradshaw of Shelbyville and Raegan Blaire Wilburn of Shelbyville; niece, Piper Andrews of Shreveport, Louisiana.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anne Goodwyn Horne; parents, Emmett Kenneth Horne and Gertrude Horne Buck and son, Jason Dale Horne.
