Tommie Lou Cosby, 77, of Holly Lake Ranch, TX passed away Monday, September 19, 2016 in Tyler, TX. She was born Tuesday, August 3, 1939 in Crow, TX to the late John William “Pete” Shoemaker and Delores McKneely Shoemaker.
Mrs. Cosby attended Holly Brook Baptist Church. She was a member of Concerned Women for America, Board of Directors for Cedar Memorial Gardens, a girl scout leader, softball coach and Sunday School teacher.

Margie McMkinzie Chessher, 83, of San Augustine, TX passed away in San Augustine, TX September 16th, 2016. Margie was born March 28, 1933 in Shelby County, TX to Jack Blackmon and Audrey Taylor. She retired from Deep East Texas Electric Co-op and was affiliated with Liberty Hill Baptist Church.

Funeral services honoring the life of Victor Gerald Files, 90, will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield, LA with Reverend Jon Lord officiating. Burial will follow at Prude Cemetery in Mansfield, LA. The family will receive friends at Rose-Neath Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 from 6:00 till 8:00 PM.
Gerald was born on February 13, 1926 to Walter and Emaline Wall Files and passed away on September 18, 2016 in Mansfield, LA.
Gerald was a WWII Navy Veteran and also a horse and cattle rancher his whole life. He ran landing barge landing troops in Okinawa. Gerald was a Judge for American Quarter Horse Association, American Paint Horse Association, and American Appaloosa Association. Gerald was also published in numerous horse publications.
Preceding Gerald in death were his wife Jacqueline Files; parents Walter and Emaline Files; brothers, George Files, Leon Files, and sister, Edra Krute.

Henry Herbert Stephens Jr., 60, of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2016, at his residence.

Mr. Stephens was born March 8, 1956, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Henry Herbert Stephens Sr. and Barbara Ann Owens Stephens. He served in the United States Navy. Mr. Stephens loved working, fishing and spending time with his family.

Jane Fulmer, 60, of Nacogdoches, Texas passed away in Nacogdoches, Texas on September 12, 2016. She was born November 4, 1955 in Carthage, Texas, the daugher of Barron Brooks and Tommie Wall Brooks Methvin.
Growing up and resididng in Timpson, Jane attended Timpson High School. She was a very loving mother, grandmother, and sister. She married Mr. Kenneth Fulmer, spending 38 years with him until his passing in 2012. Ms. Jane enjoyed watching TV, spending time with her children, and especially her grandchildren.

Mrs. Paulyne L. Evans of Tenaha, Texas, died Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Nacogdoches Medical Center in Nacogdoches, Texas. Funeral service for Mrs. Paulyne L. Evans will be Saturday, September 17, 2016 at St. John Baptist Church in Tenaha, Texas at 1:00pm. Rev. Chandler Pettis pastor and Rev. J. T. Harris will be officiating. Paulyne L. Davis Evans was a devout Tenahanian born and reared here, the daughter of the late Edgar “Ed”, and Anna Cartwright Davis. Her mother passed away in her infancy. She was reared by her grandmother, the late Mary Ballard, and an Aunt, the late Annie B. Harper.
Paulyne was a member of St. John Baptist Church in Tenaha, Texas. She lived within steps of the building. Paulyne served as: Missionary President, member of the finance committee, Christian educator, choir member, and avid Bible scholar.
She attended Booker T. Washington High School where she graduated with academic honors. She earned a BA Degree from Bishop College in Marshall, Texas in the Social Sciences and a minor in Education. She received her MA Degree from Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas. She entered the teaching profession in 1947-1948 at BTW where she remained until integration in 1967. She became an instructor at THS in 1967-1968 remained in the system until complete retirement in 2004; spending 56 years in the local system.
She was a dedicated person, a lover of people and has a faith in God that supersedes her non-identified concern for anyone who seeks her help. She was an excellent teacher of both social and Christin education having attended some twenty plus National Baptist Congress and conventions. Her honors are too numerous to name, but it is safe to say that her many honors bespeak her character and her work.
Some of her honors at THS are: Named favorite teacher several times; Teacher of the Year, and served as speaker of the THS 8th Grade Graduation of two occasions.
A few other affiliations are: Member of St. John Baptist Church, served Shelby County Unit of TSTA as President, secretary, Human Relations chair person, and District Human Relations Chairperson, member of Retired Teacher Associates, most ancient Matron of Paphas Count #179, Tenaha Queens Mary of Lilly Sweet Place #86 and District Deputy Grand Matron of District 4, Dean of the East Texas Bethel Baptist District Congress of Christina Education. She was also one of the Commissions of Tenaha Housing Authority. She is one of the partnerships of the Historic Hicks Mortuary in Center, Texas.
Paulyne was married to the late Jimmy Ross Evans of Wichita Falls; he was a graduate of Bishop College, Georgetown University Washington, D.C. with a Doctorate for Maryland University, all in the natural and biological sciences. He retired from Walter Reed Hospital as a microbiologist.
Paulyne leaves behind numerous relatives and friends.

He was born November 6, 1927 in Ponchatoula, La to Harvey and Wilma Lavigne. He served in the US Army during the Korean War where he was a recipient of two Purple Hearts. He was a member of the New Life Church in Center.

Leo Roland Faktor, 33, of Center, passed away on September 9, 2016, in Nacogdoches. Memorial services will be held on Friday, September 16, 2016, at 10:00 AM at Laird Funeral Home Chapel in Nacogdoches with Bro. Jerry Wilson officiating.
Leo was born to Martin Anton Faktor and Sally Ellen Mullen Faktor on November 24, 1982, in Wharton, Texas. He grew up in Center, Texas; attending Center High School. Leo was always known for his sense of humor. He enjoyed making everyone laugh by clowning around or just playing tricks on his family and friends. He was one to always have the last laugh and when he argued he thought he was always right. He also enjoyed playing with his play station and when there was work to be done he was a handy man for anyone who needed him. Leo was never married but is loved by all who knew him.
Leo is survived by his mother; Sally Ellen Mullen Faktor; brother, Martin Faktor, Jr. and wife, Elena; sisters, Shelly Sherrer, Sheena Mullen, Sharon Faktor, and Holly Lopez and her husband, Obed; four nieces; four nephews; one grandniece and one grandnephew.
He is preceded in death by his father, Martin Anton Faktor.

Shy’Nequie DyShea Edwards, age 16, of San Augustine, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 due to an automobile accident. She was a student at San Augustine High School.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the San Augustine High School Gym with internment in Greer Cemetery, Rev. David Mosby officiating
Visitation will be held Friday, September 9, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at Garner & Son Chapel.

Hawthorn Funeral Home announces the death of Mr. Bertie Koonce, Jr., 86, of Gary, Texas, formerly of Center, Texas. Mr. Koonce passed away in Garrison, Texas, September 3, 2016. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Hawthorn Funeral Home with a family memorial to be held at a later date.
Mr. Bertie Delton Koonce, Jr., was born July 2, 1930 in Shelby County, Texas to the marriage of Bertie Delton and Mable Mae Ritter Koonce, Sr. Bertie was raised in Center. Graduating high school there with the class of 1948. He married Billie Jean Chandler and they celebrated 49 years of marriage before she preceded him in death. Mr. Koonce worked for the City of Center and as a supervisor for Bruce Hardwood Floors.
Bertie was very independent and hard working from a young age. He never met a challenge he couldn't tackle. He was also a Mason with the Sam Samford Lodge, loved gardening and working outdoors. Bertie especially loved feeding and watching the hummingbirds. He is also preceded in death by his parents, his second wife, Wanda Henning Koonce and son, Kenneth Koonce.
