Pat Tucker, 92, of Center, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2016, at her residence.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 3, 2016, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center.  Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 4, 2016, at Newburn Cemetery in Center with Father Bob DeWolfe officiating.

Ms. Tucker was born February 4, 1924, in Center, to Joe Jordan and Grace Truman Alford Jordan.  Pat began working as a young girl with her sister, Mildred, loading tomatoes into boxcars in Tenaha at a time when this area, especially Timpson, were flourishing capitals of tomato growing.  As a teenager of 16, Pat went by bus to the Pentagon in Washington D.C. to work during the World War II era.  After returning to Center and marrying the love of her life, Francis Tucker, they became owners of Tucker Funeral Home for many years.  In early 1964, Pat opened Tucker Florist in 1964 and worked there diligently and at Center Floral until her retirement the summer of 2015 at age 91.

Probably the most important thing in life to Pat was helping others, be they human or animal.  She will be remembered as one of the all-time tireless and consistent workers for humane treatment of and care for all animals.  If she could not care for the animal personally – which she did most of the time – Pat would find a way to insure that the pet or stray was properly taken care of.  To her, cats, dogs, and other of God’s creatures were as important as anyone on earth.

Pat was a member of the Daughters of the American Republic, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and the Center chapter of Beta Sigma Phi.  She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Center for many years and was head of the Woman’s Altar Guild.

Bertha Lee (Vaughn) Raymond, 82, of Huxley, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, September 27, 2016.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 30, 2016 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Gordon Vaughn and Bro. Kevin Windham officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Huxley. Visitation will be Thursday, September 29, 2016 starting at 2 p.m. at Mangum Funeral Home.

She was born November 26, 1933 in Shelby County to Henry and Ella Alice (Snider) Vaughn.

She put her heart and soul into being a faithful wife, loving mother, grandmother, sister, mentor, confidant and friend. In her daily life, she enjoyed taking care of household duties, but she also loved to work outside. She was always right beside Dean, and throughout the years, she helped him build their family homes and contributed greatly to the construction of their chicken houses and then worked in them daily. During hay season, you could find her on a tractor raking hay. There was never a job inside or out that intimidated her.

If she did find time to do something she enjoyed, she sewed. She was the truest form of unconditional love. She was completely selfless and always had her husband, children, grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s needs taken care of before hers.

There was never a time when anyone questioned her confidence and loyalty. Her faith and belief in God was strong, and she lived according to that. She and Dean contributed many hours to the construction of Smyrna Missionary Baptist Church and was very dedicated to the upkeep of Pleasant Hill and Strong cemeteries.

She was a wonderful example of a God fearing mother and prefect example of true and honest morals and beliefs. She has left an honorable legacy and will be cherished in our hearts forever. She and Dean spent 63 years together on this earth and they will celebrate their 64th anniversary together in heaven.
