Eleanor Jean Adams, age 66, of Center, passed away July 4, 2016 after a brief illness.  

A graveside memorial service is planned for Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center.

Eleanor was born March 23, 1950 in Center.  Eleanor was a registered nurse for many years and enjoyed helping people, whether it was on her rounds at the hospital, or lovingly and generously caring for her family and friends.  She loved to laugh and all who knew her will miss her sense of humor and easy smile.  She loved animals and had many pets – her “babies” – throughout her life, and although she had no children, she had a niece and three nephews whom she loved and doted on as if they were her own.

Brother and sister-in-law - Franky and Jerilyn Adams of Center

Three nephews and a niece - Jeff Adams (and wife, Shauna) of Center, Jason Adams of Galena Park, Justin Adams of Universal City, and Jennifer Adams of Center

Many special cousins, including Sue Jansen, Tammy Lewis, Ashley Lewis and Jimmy Rhame of Center

A number of other family and friends. She is also survived by her beloved miniature schnauzer, Reina.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Billie Moore, and her brother, Billy Clyde Adams.

Mr. Wilburn was born November 28, 1931, in the Patroon Community of Shelby County, to John Vessie Wilburn and Emma Tarbutton Wilburn.  He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.  Mr. Wilburn was a 60 year member of Sam Houston Masonic Lodge #32, in Shelbyville, a member of Boilermaker Local #587, a member of VFW, and a Shriner.  He was also a member of Bethany Missionary Baptist Church in Pineland.

Jackie was born in San Antonio, Texas on April 10, 1945 to James Edmond and Jessie Lee Hartt Baldwin. You might remember him as #34 of the Tenaha Tigers, Class of 1964. He worked for Houston Lighting & Power for 30 years. He volunteered for Kids Unlimited for 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Edmond and Jessie Lee Hartt Baldwin; brother, James “Jimmy” Edmond Baldwin; nephew, Joseph Baldwin and niece, Pam Baldwin.

Mary Ann Ramsey, 73, of Timpson, Texas passed away on Thursday June 23, 2016 in Nacogdoches, Texas.  She was born on September 10, 1942, in Center, Texas, the daughter of Melvin and Mildred Lucille Hammers Ramsey.  Visitation will begin at 10AM on Saturday, June 25, 2016, at Taylor Funeral Home in Timpson, Texas.  Service will follow at 11AM on June 25, 2016 at Taylor Funeral Home in Timpson, Texas with Father Jose Luis Vidarté officiating.  Interment will be at Tennessee Cemetery, Timpson, Texas.

Mary Ann grew up in the Tennessee Community and she was a 1961 graduate of Timpson High School.  She loved Timpson and was a proud Timpson Bear fan.  Mary Ann cherished her children, and those precious grandchildren.  She spent much time sewing for others.  She had a passion for sewing.  Mary Ann loved the outdoors.  She spent what time she wasn’t sewing outside enjoying nature.  She loved gardening.  Mary Ann had enthusiasm collecting dolls and trinkets.  

Mary Ann is survived by her sons; Bradley H. Liles and wife Colleen, of Martinsburg, WV, Shanon Liles of Logansport, Louisiana; daughter, Penny Darlyne Liles Lewis and husband Kelly of Angleton, Texas; brother, Billy Ray Ramsey and wife Sherrie of Quitman, Texas; grandchildren, Ryan Phelps, Darian Liles, Quinton Liles, Tara Liles, Hunter Lewis; and a host of family and friends that will miss her dearly.

Helen Bixler, 82 of Joaquin, TX passed away on June 23, 2016 in Fort Worth, TX.

Memorial services for Helen will be held on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at two o’clock in the afternoon at First United Methodist Church of Logansport, visitation immediately to follow in the Fellowship Hall.

Helen was born in Shelbyville, TX on April 26, 1934 to J.T. and Rachel Tyler. She was the Valedictorian for her 1952 graduating class of Joaquin High School. She then continued her education at the University of Houston and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. As her family would say, she was the happiest when she was learning so she continued her studies and received her Master’s in Education from the University of Arizona. She was a former Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star Masonic Lodge #903 in Joaquin, TX.

Phillip Winston Hennigan, Sr., 70, of Center, passed away Friday, June 17, 2016 at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2016 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Kevin Windham and Bro. D.J. Dickerson officiating. Burial will follow at Adams Cemetery in Shelbyville with military honors under the direction of the US Army Honor Guards. Visitation will be Sunday, June 19, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Mangum Funeral Home.

He was born April 10, 1946 in Jasper to Joseph Polk and Joye Wynell (Phillips) Hennigan. He was the middle child, the favorite, over his brother Gary and Sister, Connie. Phillip Hennigan, a former Major League Baseball player, played from 1969-1973 with the Cleveland Indians (Ohio) and the New York Mets. Hennigan attended Jasper High School, graduating in 1964. He then attended Sam Houston State University. He was drafted in fourth round by the Indians in 1966. Hennigan served in the US Army from 1966 to 1968 where he served during Vietman. 

He made his debut with the Indians on Sept. 2, 1969. Hennigan pitched out of the Cleveland Indian bullpen from 1969-1972. He became the Indians’ ace reliever in 1971 going 4-3 with 14 saves, the 8th best in the American League. He was traded to Mets in 1972. After retiring from baseball, he joined the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) for five years. He also has worked for the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department and was later employed with the Center Police Department from 1995 -2012 where he retired as a Sergeant. He was a Peace officer for over 40 years.  Phil was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.

He enjoyed spending time with Lynda Kaye and entertaining friends. The highlight of his life was watching baseball games with his sons and grandsons. He was especially proud of his grandson, Jonathan Hennigan for following in his footsteps. He dreamed of the day Zayne would be on the big field.  He and his wife attended Camp Springs Baptist Church in Hemphill.

He is preceded in death by his Parents, Joseph Polk and Joye Wynell (Phillips) Hennigan, Brother, Gary Hennigan and Son, Scotty Hennigan.

Lyndell “Mac” Langston, 79, of Center, passed away Monday, June 13, 2016, in Nacogdoches.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, June 17, 2016, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center.  Funeral service will be held at

Mr. Langston was born December 18, 1936, in Hope, Arkansas to Lenard Mac Langston and Lois Lee Alsobrook Langston.  He was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.  Mr. Langston also liked to make beer and wine.  He was a member of International Bricklayers and Applied Craftsman and Redeemer Lutheran Church in Nacogdoches.
