Memorial service for Harris Allyn Weaver, 69, of Timpson, Texas, son of the late Harris Johnson Weaver and Myrtle Lucile Rice, will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 2, 2016, at Taylor Funeral Home, 511 Ross Graves, Timpson, Texas with Bro. Ronnie Sowell officiating. Mr. Weaver was born May 8, 1946 and passed away on March 24, 2016 in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Harris was raised in Navasota, Texas where he later graduated from Navasota High School. He continued his education at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas majoring in Business with a minor in Math. Harris married Linda Beavers in December 2004. Linda always described Harris as her best friend. He was a caregiver, thoughtful, kind, compassionate, and was willing to lend a helping hand no matter the circumstances. His favorite words were to tell Linda, it’s okay, “we’ll get it done little by little.”
If he wasn’t helping others, Harris might be found tinkering around the house, manicuring his yard, sitting on his back porch watching birds, visiting with his many friends, or playing free cell. He won thousands of free cell games and took great pride in his winning streak. Where ever you found Harris, you would find his faithful Schnauzer, Scruffy, following alongside and making sure all everything was alright in the world.
Harris could always count on his best friend, Les Matthews, to help him solve the world’s problems. They thoroughly enjoyed their many talks and visits. Occasionally, you could find one or both of them repairing the potholes on their road. Harris was extremely passionate about sports and his love was evident each time he coached football from his living room recliner! His favorite sport being football, always cheering on the Navasota Rattlers every chance he got. In 2014, he and Linda attended his 50th high school reunion where he reminisced the good ole days back at the school he loved dearly. If he was not rooting on the Rattlers, then he was cheering his favorite college team, the University of Texas Longhorns.
Aside from being Linda’s best friend, he took much pride in being a father and friend to his daughter, Michele Weaver Kooken and her husband, Kerry, of The Woodlands, Texas. Additionally, he loved all of Linda’s children, Robin Beavers of Timpson, Texas and Brenda Whiteman and husband Jon, of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, as each one brought great joy and pride to Harris. Family was always important to him.
Harris was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and was very close in fellowship with his church family.
Harris is survived by his wife, Linda Beavers Weaver; daughter, Michele Weaver Kooken and husband, Kerry Jr.; special friend, “Scruffy”; sister-n-law, Monica Weaver; nephew, Matthew Harris Weaver; many nieces and nephews; and an abundance of friends and family that will miss him dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harris Johnson Weaver and Myrtle Lucile Rice; and brother, Jimmy Ross Weaver.

Heaven welcomed another Killen angel on Saturday, March 26, 2016, when Jerrie Lynn Killen-Dupre, 65, passed away suddenly at her home in the McClelland Community.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Watson & Sons Funeral Home. There will be a visitation on Friday, April 1, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the chapel, followed by a graveside service at McClelland Community Cemetery.
Jerrie was born January 24, 1951, to George Killen and Mary Lee Lovell Killen, of McClelland Community. She was a very loving, compassionate person, always putting her concerns for others ahead of her own. She was a very devoted daughter – caregiver for her mother as well as her brother, Charlie. She never had a thought that did not include them. Jerrie had a special love and touch for all animals, taking injured animals and caring for them as best she could. Jerrie will be sadly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. We needed her, but Jesus must have needed her more.

Daniel Allen (Buddy) Cantrell passed away Thursday, March 24, 2016, at his home while under Hospice care. Graveside service will be Monday, March 28, 2016 at 11:00 AM, at Weaver Cemetery, FM 1970 South, Timpson, Texas, 75975, with Bro. Stan Britton officiating.
He is preceded in death by his wife Janice Charlene Wilde Cantrell and their son, Samuel Allen Cantrell. He leaves his daughter Cynthia Cantrell Lewing and her husband, Ronald Lewing, of Tiki Island, TX.; his daughter, Paula Cantrell Harness and her husband, Matt Harness of Mesquite, TX.; grandson, Jake Lewing and wife, Katie Lewing of Seattle, WA.; granddaughters, Megan Harness Cuzen and husband, Ben Cuzen, of Dallas, TX., Sarah Lewing of Houston, TX., and Brittany Harness Smith and husband, Hunter Smith of Newport, AR.; and many close friends.
Born in Houston, the son of Samuel Tanksley Cantrell and Cleva Allene Tyer Cantrell, he spent most of his younger years in Timpson, TX. near his mothers' birthplace.
In 1952, Buddy entered service into the Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean conflict, and was stationed overseas. He was released from Active Military Service in 1954, after a serious illness, and sent home with little hope of survival. His mother nursed him to health, and he was honorably discharged in 1960, earning the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service stars, the United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.
He entered Lamar University on a GI Bill Scholarship, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1959. He met his wife, Janice when she was attending Sam Houston State University, nearby. They were married in 1961, and soon settled in Beaumont. He worked several years inspecting the radio operations of ships in Beaumont and Port Arthur, and was certified as a Professional Engineer in 1970 before taking a job with the Federal Communications Commission in Houston, where he retired after more than 30 years of service. Following his retirement, he worked for Texas Association of Broadcasters, traveling across the state with Janice at the wheel inspecting various television and radio stations; she was his personal assistant, taking dictation to type his inspection reports. He met several notable personalities, and enjoyed his travels with his wife. They eventually built a home in Matagorda, TX., on the Colorado river, where they enjoyed fishing, shrimping, and crabbing. Both were avid fishermen, and Buddy often designed and built his own crab traps and fishing gear. He carried a notepad and mechanical pencil everywhere so that he could sketch out his designs.
Buddy was a Master Mason with the Masonic Lodge in Timpson, for more than 50 years. He served as a Shriner for a number of years and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bay City, TX.

Alan D. Jones, 47, of Center, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2016, in Center.

Mr. Jones was born February 21, 1969, in Freeport, to Dan Phillip Jones and Brenda Gail Windham. He graduated from Joaquin High School in 1987 and joined the Marine Corps in 1988. Mr. Jones served in Desert Storm. He loved fishing, hunting and spending time with family.

Lieutenant General Orren Ray “Cotton” Whiddon passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord, March 20, 2016, surrounded by family and friends after fighting the good fight. He was born March 10, 1935 to the late Cynthia Betty Cockrell and Orren Cox Whiddon in Joaquin, TX as a fifth generation Texan.
General Whiddon graduated from Stephen F. Austin University in 1955, was drafted into the US Army as a Buck Private and upon completion of OCS in 1956, he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant, Field Artillery. He holds a Master’s in Management from USC. His military education includes Field Artillery Basic and Advanced Courses, Army Command and Gen. Staff College and Naval War College.
General Whiddon served two tours in Vietnam, including G2, 101st Airborne and in a variety of career building assignments, including Ft. Sill, OK; Vicenza, Italy; Ft. Leavenworth, KS; The Pentagon (numerous); Giessen, Germany (twice); SHAPE, Mons, Belgium; Ft. Polk, LA; and Ft. Eustis, VA. Other key assignments include AFCENT, The Netherlands; and Commanding Gen., 8th ID, Bad Krueznach, Germany. Gen. Whiddon retired in 1990 as Commanding Gen., Second United States Army, Ft. Gillem, GA.
Awards and decorations Gen. Whiddon received include the Distinguished Service Medal (2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Defense Superior Service Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), Legion of Merit (3 Oak Leaf Clusters), Bronze Star Medal (two Oak Leaf Clusters), Meritorious Service Medal (4 Oak Leaf Clusters), Air Medal (5 Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Commendation Medal (2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Good Conduct Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), National Defense Service Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), Vietnam Service Medal (3 Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Service Ribbon (1 Oak Leaf Cluster) and Overseas Service Ribbon (Oak Leaf Clusters). Gen Whiddon is authorized to wear the Combat Infantry Badge, Parachutist Badge, Joint Chiefs of Staff ID Badge, and Army Gen. Staff ID Badge.
General Whiddon was inducted into Stephen F. Austin University’s Alumni Hall of Fame in 1988, awarded the Angelina Rotary Club’s Paul Harris Fellow Award and “Service Above Self” Award in 2005 and the Angelina Award in 2014. He was a longtime supporter of the SFA’s ROTC program. The Howitzer fired at SFA home games, Ol’ Cotton, is named in his honor.
After retiring in 1990, Cotton and the love of his life, Harriot McKinney Whiddon, began the second adventure of their lives in Lufkin, Texas. His leadership and ability to inspire others led to his work with and development of the PineCrest Retirement Community and Salvation Army Adult Day Care Center. His community work included the Lufkin Planning and Zoning Board, St. Cyprian’s Episcopal School Board President, Methodist Retirement Communities Board, Methodist Retirement Trust Board, and Senior Warden for St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church. Cotton loved Lufkin, and Lufkin loved him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Cynthia Betty (Cockrell) and Orren Cox Whiddon, and brother, Richard Abner Whiddon. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Harriot McKinney Whiddon; son, Orren Prentice Whiddon of Artemis, PA; daughters, Laura Whiddon Shortell and husband, Joe Ross Stutts of Dallas, TX; Barbara Whiddon Chandler and husband, James B. Chandler of Allen, TX; four grandchildren, Orren A. Whiddon, Pittsburgh, PA; Joseph H. Shortell III, Dallas, TX; Catharine T. Whiddon, Artimus, PA; Skylar J. Chandler, Allen, TX; sister, Susan K. Whiddon, Joaquin, TX; sisters-in-law, Susan P. McKinney of Nacogdoches, TX and Jean T. Whiddon of Hideaway, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Yarberry was born Virgie Faye Smith on July 1, 1936 in Timpson, Texas to Weldon Wade and Lula Faye (Hunt) Smith. She was a 1954 graduate of Tenaha High School, loving wife of 63 years to Tommy Yarberry, a devoted mother and loved gardening, ceramics and crocheting. Mrs. Yarberry is preceded in death by her parents, Weldon and Lula Faye Smith and her sister, Geneva Smith Rowe Locke.

Stanley Burgay, 62, of Timpson, passed away Monday, March 21, 2016, in Center.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at John D. Windham Civic Center in Center. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 24, 2016, at John D. Windham Civic Center with Bro. Ronnie Sowell officiating. Interment will follow at Blair Cemetery in Timpson.
Mr. Burgay was born November 28, 1953, in Shelby County, to Dallas Burgay and Mildred Estelle Scott Burgay. He retired from Center Police Department after 30 years of service. Following his retirement, Mr. Burgay continued in law enforcement by serving as Constable in Timpson for 12 years. He was an avid outdoorsman and was Captain of the Timpson High School Association Fishing Club. He was known for his ability to bring in the fish or tell others where to catch them. Mr. Burgay was very influential in the community, playing an important role in mentoring troubled young people. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. Mr. Burgay was a faithful member of Good Hope Baptist Church.

Irene (Flurry) Hendricks, 84 of Lufkin, died Saturday, March 19, 2016 in Lufkin.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 21, 2016 from 6pm until 8pm at Carroway Funeral Home in Lufkin. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Roger Doyle and Pastor Steve Cowart officiating. Interment will follow in the Glendale Cemetery.
Mrs. Hendricks was born August 26, 1931 in the Shawnee Prairie Community, Angelina County, Texas to the late Hoyt and Nona Bell (Havard) Flurry and died Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Castle Pines Health and Rehabilitation in Lufkin.
Mrs. Hendricks had resided in Lufkin for most of her life. She was employed with Lufkin Independent School District for 25 years in the Food Service Department. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and gardening. Mrs. Hendricks was a devoted member of Trinity Baptist Church as long as she was able to attend and loved her church family. She loved traveling with her husband Arnold to listen to gospel music whenever possible. She was a faithful and devoted wife, always caring lovingly for Arnold, especially after his diagnosis of Alzheimer’s.

Allen Dale Anderson, 83, of Huxley, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Nacogdoches Medical Center.
A memorial graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday April 2, 2016 at Strong Cemetery in Huxley with military honors given by Fort Hood Honor Guards and Masonic Rites given by Sam Samford Lodge #149.
He was born March 31, 1932 in Champagne County, Illinois to Ivan and Mary (Austin) Anderson. Mr. Anderson worked on a pipeline for many years. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and he was a Mason.
