Mildred Wigley Dean Langford
Funeral services for Mildred Wigley Dean Langford, 92. of Lufkin will be held Monday, March 6, 2006 at 1 pm in the First Assembly of God Family Church with Reverend Elbert Smart and Reverend Charles Wigley officiating. Graveside services will be held at 4 pm in the Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center. Mrs. Langford was born October 18, 1913 in Louisiana, to the late Winifred (Robinette) and Ed Carney , and died Thursday, March 2, 2006 in a local hospital. Mrs. Langford had resided in Lufkin since 2002. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Family Church. Survivors include her sons and daughter in law. Rev. Charles and Faye Wigley and Michael and Ginger Wigley, all of Conroe, daughter and son in law, Ann and Pastor Bob Lewis of Lufkin, stepdaughter, Joyce Dean of Nacogdoches, stepdaughter and son in law Carolyn and Ellis "Buddy" Patterson of Nacogdoches, stepson and daughter in law, Robert Earl and Janie Dean of Nacogdoches, 16 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jasper Wigley, L.D. Dean and Larry Langford, and daughter Verna Putman. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Langford's grandsons: Mark Lewis, Dennis Lewis, Charlie Wigley, Dr. Larry Putman, David Putman and Daron Wigley. The family extends special thanks to the wonderful nursing staff at Pinecrest Methodist Retirement Community, Dr. Kyle Krohn and the nursing staff of Woodland Heights Step Down. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Sunday evening at the funeral home.

Mirther "Pat" Picolla Patrick
Mithe Picolla Patrick, know to many as Pat Patrick, passed away March 4, 2006 at her home in Savoy, Texas at the age of 81. Ms. Patrick was born July 13, 1924 in Hall Summit, Louisiana to parents Dewey and Susie Smith who preceded her in death. She married Thomas Alton Patrick on September 17, 1940 in Coushatta, Louisiana and moved to West Carroll Parish Louisiana soon afterward, living there for many years while farming and raising a family. She later moved to Kilgore, Texas before finally moving to Savoy, Texas in her job as a USDA inspector, where she resided for over 20 years. She loved gardening and being outdoors. She also spent many hours playing dominos and cards with her friends. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Monday, March 6, 2006 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Carl Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center, Texas.

Survived by : Children, Tom Patrick and wife Sachiko, Joyce Kane and husband Jack, Jinx Preble, Barbara Kelly and husband Paul, Ron Patrick and wife Linda. Grandchildren, Chuck Kane, Lisa Patrick, Michelle Preble, Stephen Cole, Pam Rachal, Erin Patrick, Donnie Preble and Megan Patrick. Sister, Myrtis Holloway. Also a number of nieces, nephews, a host of extended family and long time friends who will all remember her with love. She is preceded by an infant son, Dewey Lynn Patrick. Visitation will be held from 5:30 pm to 7 pm Sunday, March 5, 2006 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center.

Dessie Jones
Graveside services for Bessie Jones, 92, of Center, formerly of Joinersville, will be held at 2 pm, Sunday March 5, 2006 at Mount Hope Cemetery with Rev. John Cheney officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery under the direction of Crawford Crim Bryan Funeral Home in Henderson.

Mrs. Jones died March 3, in Center. She was born on Feb. 5, 1914, in Point, Texas. She was a member of West Main Baptist Church in Henderson and was employed as a cook with Gaston Schools.

Family will recieve friends from 5-7 pm Saturday, March 4, 2006 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Jones and on granddaughter. Survivors include: Three sons and daughters in law, Jimmy and Pat Jones of Carrollton, George W. and Ruth Jones of Center and Billy Joe and Linda Jones of Longview. Five grandchildren and Seven great grandchildren.

JoAnn Lanigan, 74, of Shreveport, passed away Friday, March 3, 2006. She was born November 24, 1931 in Shelby County, Texas to Joe O'Rear and Hilda Wych O'Rear. Mrs. Lanigan was a 1949 graduate of Shelbyville High School and was Catholic faith.

Sammy Daw, age, 68 of Willis, Texas, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2006. He was born November 30, 1937 in Vivian La. to M. D. (Sarks) Daw and Pardita Miller Daw. Mr. Daw was a 1956 graduate of Joaquin High School and a 1961 graduate of Texas A&M. William "Bill" Smith
William "Bill" Smith, 71, died Saturday, March 4, 2006 at his home in Livingston, Tx. He was born September 23, 1934 in Houston, Tx. Bill was Police Chief in Livingston from 1976 to 1983. He also worked as Chief Deputy in Walker County and for the Houston Metro Police. He retired from the Navy having attained the rank of SMC. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at 10 am at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Herb Graf officiating. Burial will be held in Strong Cemetery in Center, Texas at 3 pm. He is survived by Wife Sally Joneil Smith of Livingston, Son, Tim Smith & wife Debbie of Livingston, Daughter, Mary Beth Terry of San Saba, 6 Grandchildren, Brother, Jerry Smith & wife Angle of Austin, Brother, Jack Smith of Montgomery. Ruth Haley Bridwell, age 88, of Center, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2006. She was born May 21, 1917 in Mineola to Benjamin Denton Haley and Daisy Mae Haley. Mrs Bridwell was a member of the First Baptist Church in Center. She taught the third and fourth grade Sunday school class at First Baptist for over 38 years. Mrs. Bridwell was a homemaker, mother and grandmother. She had been a resident of Shelby County for most of her life. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Monday, March 13, 2006 at Waston & Sons Chapel with Rev. Carl Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center. In lieu of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to the Lottie Moon Mission Fund at the First Baptist Church in Center. Lutishia B. Hatton, 79, of Center, passed away March 12, 2006 in Nacogdoches. Ms. Hatton was born August 4, 1926 in the Patroon Community of Shelby County to Ebb W. and Mary Dwire Campbell. She was a member of Hurst Street Church of Christ. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home, with Kyle Campbell & Jeremy Ferguson officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. J.C. Spruiell
J.C. “Jake” Spruiell, of Shelbyville, devoted husband, father, and grandfather peacefully departed this life on Sunday, March 12, 2006 in Tyler at the age of 68. J.C. was born March 9, 1938 in Tahoka to Fred and Noveta Pauline Spruiell. He moved to Shelbyville from Marble Falls, Texas in 1996. J.C. attended South Plains College in Levelland. He married Carol Ann McCrary on March 3, 1967 in Brownwood. J.C. was employed as a supervisor by Amoco Production for 45 years and retired in 1998. He served in the U.S. Air Force, was a Worshipful Master for Shelbyville Masonic Lodge, and was a member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He was a devoted husband and enjoyed his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Pauline Spruiell and a sister, Linda Hoyt. Those left to mourn his passing include his wife, Carol; one daughter, Jan and husband Ted Currington of Levelland; two sons: Jesse and wife Shelli Spruiell of Marble Falls, and Tim Spruiell of Nacogdoches; six grandchildren: Christi and husband Matt Reed, Chad and wife Ann Currington, and Justin, Corky, Randy, and Landon Spruiell; three great grandchildren: Layton and Kyler Reed, and Brylee Currington; Five brothers; Bill Spruiell of Joaquin, Howard Spruiell of Center, Bobby Spruiell of Austin, Freddy Spruiell and Ronnie Spruiell of Levelland; four sisters; Juanita Leonard of Denison, Trudy McArthur of Spur, Jan Blankenship of Granite Shoals, and Shelly Kelsay of Ariel Wash.; and several nieces and nephews. James Walter Verner - James Walter Verner, 95, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2006 in Bryan. He was born March 8, 1911, 1.5 miles South East of Peacock, Texas in Stonewall County. He was the tenth child out of twelve born to John Wesley Verner and Myrtie Beatrice Moore Verner.
He was married to Velma Vallie Davis on April 29, 1939 in Commerce by Clyde McCurdy. From that union came three sons and four daughters. He was a retired Congregational Methodist Church pastor. Rev. Verner was a bi-vocational pastor and was active in much of North and East Texas. For five years he pastored in West Texas. His other profession was carpentry and he was proud to receive the 65 year carpenter’s pin.

Forrest Hailey, 69, of Magee, Mississippi, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2006 in Center. He was born January 13, 1936 in Shelby County, Texas to James Hailey and I.O. Crawford Hailey. He served his country in the United States Military while enlisted in the Air Force. He was a Baptist by faith and member of Goshen Baptist Church. He worked many years and retired as a supervisor from Magna Tech Manufacturing Co. in Magee. Mr. Hailey also served as Sports Editor for the Magee Courier for many years, in following his love for sports he had served as umpire for MS Baseball for 50 years.

Dr. T.G. Carroll, 85, of Center, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2005 in Center. He was born September 28, 1920 in Shelbyville, Texas to Robert Henderson Carroll and Maggie Morrison Carroll. Mr. Carroll served in the US Army Air Corp. in WWII. Mr Carroll was a member of the Center Noon Lions Club, the Sons of Republic of Texas, the Texas Veterinarian Medical Association and the American Veterinarian Medical Association. He owned Carroll Animal Hospital from 1952 to 1986. He was a retired veterinarian. Mr. Carroll was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Center.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 am Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church in Center with Rev. Greg Megill officiating. Interment will follow at the Shelbyville Cemetery in Shelbyville, Texas.

Robert Blain Crump, 79, of Joaquin, passed away Friday, November 18, 2005 at his home in Joaquin. He was born September 3, 1926 in Joaquin, Texas to Robert M. Crump and Myrtis Lilly Crump. Mr. Crump retired from the United States Air Force. He later worked as a dental lab technician . Mr. Crump was a 32nd Degree Mason, a Shriner and a member of the Joaquin Masonic Lodge. Cornelia Lawson, of Aiken
Cornelia Joyce Hopkins Lawson passed away at her home in the Aiken Community on November 22, 2005 after a lengthy illness. She was born 81 years ago in Shelby County to Euel Loel Hopkins and Viola Cornelia Burn Hopkins. She lived in the Aiken Community all her life.
Mrs. Lawson was one of a long line of family educators including her uncle, aunt, mother, both sisters, two of her nieces and two of her nieces. She attended Excelsior Elementary School and graduated from Center High School in 1942. After attending Stephen F. Austin Teachers College in 1943, Mrs. Lawson taught at Camp Worth in San Augustine County from 1944 to 1946. In the school year of 1946-1947, she taught at Pine Hill School. This was the last year that "One Teacher- All Grades" schools were commonly in existence. In 1947-1948 she taught in the Fellowship School which is now in the Joaquin School District. In 1948, Mrs. Lawson began teaching elementary school at Excelsior.
Mrs. Lawson returned to SFA in 1950 where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree, with a major in Business Administration. In 1952, she earned a Masters Degree in Elementary Education. She continued teaching at Excelsior until she was appointed Superintendent in September 1977 reportedly the only female school superintendent in Texas at the time. She continued in the position until her retirement in 1985. After retiring, she returned to serve as part time counselor at Excelsior until her final retirement in June, 1992. At her death, she continued to serve the Excelsior School as a member of the School Board of Trustees.
Mrs. Lawson was a member of the Newborn Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, the Sheriff's Posse Rodeo Association, and Secretary of the Sardis Cemetery Fund. She was a lifetime member of the Mr. Herman Church of Christ, first attending with her grandparents, Jim and Ella Hopkins.
Mrs. Lawson was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Thomas Lawson, father Euel Loel Hopkins, mother, Viola Cornelia Burns Hopkins, sister, Wenoa Burns, and nephew Richard Loel Burns.
Mrs. Lawson is survived by her sister and brother in law, Charlsie and James Wheeler, niece Jamie and husband Don Parmer, nephew Charles and wife Darlie Wheeler, niece Laura and husband Tommy Harris, niece Susan and husband Don Bush and her aunt, Vivian Jerigan. Also surviving her are 10 great nieces and nephews and 16 great great nieces and nephews. Since she had none of her own. Mrs. Lawson loved her nieces and nephews as her children and grandchildren. She was dearly loved by all.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Hospice for all their care and concern.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 am on Saturday, November 26, 2005 at Watson & Sons Chapel with Dean Bullock officiating. Pallbearers will be Steve Adams, Bo Barbee, Gilbert Rains, Rex Rains, Benny Russell, and Jimmy Scates. Interment will follow at Mt. Herman Cemetery in Shelby County. Dale Cooper age 80, of Port Neches passed away Saturday, November 26, 2005 at his residence. He was born January 26, 1925 in Shelby County and had been a Mid County resident since 1944. He retired as a supervisor for Texaco after some 36 years of service. He served many years as a machinist when Texaco was know as Neches Butane. Mr. Cooper was a member of the First Baptist Church of Port Neches and was also a member of the Shelby County Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. Funeral for Lela Ethel Christian Eaves, 95, of Silsbee will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 5, at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Carter and the Rev. Gene Kirkley officiating. Burial will be in Clever Creek Cemetery, Center. Eaves died Sept. 2, 2005 at Silsbee Convalescent Center. Born July 3, 1910, she was the daughter of Charlie W. and Ethel Whittlesey Christian. She graduated from Center High School in 1929 and received her bachelor and masters degrees from SFA, where she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. Eaves was a retired school teacher for schools in Shelby County, Buna and Warren. She was a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church in Silsbee. Mrs. Jewel Fay (Jones) Ramsey
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, Jewel Fay Jones Ramsey passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2005. Fay was the 7th of 8 children born to Robert and Hannah Elizabeth (Carmichael) Jones in Clayton, Texas, on Easter Sunday, April 8, 1917. She attended public school in Clayton and graduated from high school in Carthage, Texas. Fay was active in the Baptist church in Clayton, where she led singing and taught Sunday school. She left the family farm and attended Stephen F. Austin State Teachers College, where she earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education. Fay's first teaching position was at Silas Elementary School, a two-room school near Timpson. There she met and fell in love with the most handsome man she said she had ever seen, Hershell Ramsey. Fay and Hershell were married on December 20, 1941, at the Methodist Parsonage in Timpson by Reverend Tunnell. Fay taught in Silas from 1939 to 1942 and Hershell taught there from 1940 until his induction into the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942. Being newlyweds, Fay followed Hershell to several U.S. military bases before he was sent to Hennings Air Force Base near London, England. While Hershell was in England, Danny Jean, their only daughter was born. Fay resumed her teaching career as a first grade teacher in Apple Springs following WWII. The Ramsey's moved to Garrison in 1949 where Hershell served as Superintendent and High School Principal and Fay taught first grade in the Timpson and Garrison school systems until their retirement in 1984. Fay taught many, many young people; she was an excellent teacher, loved by her students and respected by other teachers. She worked in many school events and activities. Fay loved the Garrison Methodist Church where she served in many capacities. She taught Sunday school, directed vacation Bible school, and served on many church committees. Fay was a supportive and hard-working companion to Hershell's ministry in the Methodist Church. His pastorate at Joaquin United Methodist Church was celebrated by the construction of the Hershell and Fay Ramsey Fellowship Hall, which continues to serve the people of that congregation. Each year, Joaquin Methodist Church celebrates Hershell and Fay Ramsey Day. Kind and loving, Fay lived her life exemplifying her Christian beliefs. She was thoughtful of others, always wanting to help and support family, friends, and neighbors. She adored her husband, daughter, and grandson. There was nothing too difficult for her to do for them and for other family members. She enjoyed growing flowers, playing 42 with friends, and visiting with her family members. She loved the people in Garrison and especially the members of her Sunday school class. Fay was a devoted wife, a loving mother, grandmother, a proud great-grandmother, a caring daughter and sister, and delightful aunt. Fay was predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years, Hershell Ramsey. She is survived by her loving daughter, Danny, her husband, Jim Robinson, and her beloved grandson, Brad Ballard, wife Kristy and great grandchildren, Braden Alan and Brynn Ramsey Ballard. Fay is also survived by her sister, Ebbie Saunders, her sister-in-law, Marcelle Cobb and many, many loving nieces and nephews. Her brothers Roy, Erus, Bennie, and Buford and sisters Lila Mae and Vera preceded her in death. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Funeral services will be held on at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 4th at the First United Methodist Church of Garrison with interment following at the Shady Grove Cemetery located in Shelby County. Reverend Danhurst will officiate with music rendered by the First United Methodist Church Choir. Services for Scotty Lloyd "Scott" Fleming, II will be held at 1 pm Monday, September 19, 2005 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. In honor of Scott's wishes, after the services he will be cremated with half of his cremains to be entombed in the Mausoleum at Oaklawn Memorial Park with his beloved Brother Shannon and the other half of his cremains to be scattered on Toledo Bend where he loved & fished as a young boy & man. Scott passed away on Friday, September 16, 2005 at his residence after a sudden illness. For the past year he has endeared nine operations on his leg after he shattered it in an accident in August 2004. this has been a tragic & trying year for Scott & his Mother & Grandmother who loved him & helped him through his hard times. Scott grew up in Shreveport, La. having attended Greenwood Christian where he graduated in 1984. He was well known & loved by his fellow students. He was a star basketball player & during his Senior year he received the Basketball Player of the Year Award. Also during his Senior Year he was nominated & received the coveted Patriotism Award form the Knights of Columbus for his outstanding leadership throughout his high school years. He not only played sports at Greenwood but also played in the South Shreveport Dixie League Baseball Team. As a youngster, Scott along with his Brother & Sister were well know in the Shreveport-Bossier area for their Judo skills, having completed many local, regional, state & national tournaments. Scott attended Northeast Louisiana University & was only a few hours from receiving a degree in business. After college Scott worked for many years for Cox Communication & later become a millwright. He was a Methodist. Scott was preceded in death by his beloved Brother, James Shannon Fleming in 2001. Maternal Grandfather, J.D. Tye B. Brittain, 75, of Center, passed away Friday, September 30, 2005. He was born January 25, 1930 in Shelby County, Texas to John Willis Brittain and Tennie C. Buckley. Mr. Brittain was of the Baptist faith. Funeral services will be held at 4 pm Saturday, October, 1, 2005 at Watson & Sons Chapel in Center with Bro. Mike Rodgers officiating. Interment to follow at Strong Cemetery in Huxley. Pallbearers will be Shannon Langford, Charles Barr, Bruce Koonce, Craig Moss, Davis A. Brittain & Michael David Brittain. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Braxton, John Dillon, Mike Braxton, Stevie Cox, David Adkinson, Keith Braxton & Buddy Moss. Survivors include: Wife, Bertha Ann Brittain of Center. Daughters, Laura Griffin of Center, Deborah Dennis and husband Randy of Joaquin, Cindy Langford & husband Shannon of Center. Sons, Willis Eugene Brittain of Navasota, Roland Brittain of Tenaha, Johnny Brittain & wife Tammy of Center and Ricky Brittain of Palestine. 12 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren. Sisters Mary Miller of Huxley, Avis Moss & husband Barney of Joaquin. Brother, J.I. Brittain and wife Pauline of Axtec, N.M. Also a number of nieces, nephews cousins & a host of friends. Visitation will be held from 5 pm to 8 pm Friday, September 30, 2005 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center.

Joy Weaver, 95, of Center, passed away Monday, December 29, 2014 at her residence.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 1, 2015 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 2, 2015 at Watson & Sons Chapel. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Center.

Ms. Weaver was born May 6, 1919 in the Patroon Community of Shelby County to Dr. John Henry Ellington and Verna Laura Bell Ellington. She was a member of First Christian Church in Center.

She is survived by

Larry Fred Matthews “Frog”, 68, of Carthage, passed away Saturday, December 27, 2014 at his residence.

Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center with Bro. Kevin Cook officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 30, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Mangum Funeral Home.

He was born September 18, 1946 in Center, Texas to Clyde and Georgia Bell (Bivens) Matthews. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Carthage. He served in the US Air Force during Vietnam. A truly merciful, loving, forgiving and generous man, who believed the best about others and was willing to give them another chance.

He is preceded in death by his Parents, Clyde and Georgia Bell Matthews, Wife, Linda Matthews & Grandson, Gabriel Fountain.

Ouida Mae (Dent) Whiteside of Austin, Texas passed away August 27, 2014. She was born in Nacogdoches, Texas on February 27, 1928 to Roy B. Dent and Mary Odell (Johnson) Dent of Timpson, Texas. She grew up in Tenaha and Timpson, Texas and graduated from Timpson High School. On November 27, 1947, she married her high school sweetheart, Harold Stanley Whiteside and spent more than 52 years teaching, raising children and enjoying life together.

Ouida received her bachelor's degree in education from Stephen F. Austin State University and later earned her master's degree in educational administration. As a high school English teacher, she spent more than fifty years in the classroom touching the lives of many students, mentoring many young teachers and building countless lifelong relationships. In Austin, Ouida taught at Travis High School, McCallum High School and retired from Anderson High School in 2005.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she was occasionally called upon to share her insights on the scriptures of the week. She truly loved teaching, literature and her family.

Ouida was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Jack Dent and her sister Rodell (Dent) Spencer. She is survived by three brothers: Roy Dent of Lake Murvaul, Texas, Troy (Kay) Dent of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida and Ted (Pat) Dent of Nacogdoches, Texas; four children: W. Robin (Pat) Whiteside of Austin, Vikki Whiteside of Midpines, CA, Marti (Ron) Willens of Pacific Palisades, CA and Stan (Tay Tanya) Whiteside of Fajardo, Puerto Rico; seven grandchildren: Gage Brown of Austin, William R. Whiteside of Austin, Brandy Whiteside (Justin Little) of Austin, Shane Ingraham of Austin, Zack (Yesika) Ingraham of Austin, Stephanie Ingraham of Los Angeles, CA and Troy Whiteside of Austin; and seven great-grandchildren: Easton Brown, Noah Ingraham, Kobe Ingraham, Kaylee Whiteside, David Whiteside, Cris Whiteside and Jaylee Whiteside.

Sid Hall of Trinity United Methodist Church will officiate at the memorial service at 11:00 am on Friday, August 29, 2014 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ouida's memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 3520 Executive Center Dr., Suite #140, Austin, Texas 78731.

Spc. Cory Joseph Bertrand, 18 of Center, passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2008 while serving in the U.S. Army in Qazi Bandeh, Afghanistan during his tour of duty.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday October 23, 2008 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Charles Boster officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville with full military honors. Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon at Mangum Funeral Home.

He was born November 15, 1989 in Opelousas, LA. He joined the military in January 2007. He was a member of the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division; assigned to Fort Hood. Spc. Bertrand was awarded numerous medals and ribbons, among them are the Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Global War of Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, NATO, the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart
