Panola College School of Energy students stand behind new portable electrical trainers in the technology lab.
March 2, 2022 - Panola College School of Energy students will begin learning on new portable electrical trainers the program purchased from a $20,000 donation received from The Crain Foundation and R. Lacy Services. Students will use the new portable electrical trainers for basic and advanced electrical courses in programs such as electrical and instrumentation, residential commercial electrician, natural gas compression, petroleum technology, maintenance technician, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.
The new portable electrical units will teach students about electrical AC and DC theory, relay theory, and simple and advanced circuitry. The training units provide opportunities for students to learn how to use a multimeter to measure four different electrical quantities. A variety of switch styles are represented on each unit to familiarize students with common switches found in commercial and residential applications. Light and sound components provide students feedback of their work with visual and auditory representation.
“We are grateful to The Crain Foundation and R. Lacy Services for providing state-of-the-art trainers that allow our students to have hands-on experiences,” said Michael Pace, School of Energy instructor. “The new portable basic electrical trainers enable us to reach more students by carrying the units to any available lab at Panola College Center or Carthage location.”

December 8, 2021 — Stephen F. Austin State University and Panola College recently announced an academic partnership in which students have the opportunity to complete an associate degree and Bachelor of Science in Nursing concurrently.
Administrators from the two schools signed an articulation agreement in November on SFA’s campus to make the partnership official.
“This is a tremendous partnership,” said Dr. Scott Gordon, SFA president. “The relationship between SFA and Panola College is one that is longstanding, and this strengthens that relationship even more.”
Students will be enrolled at both Panola College and SFA while in the program; however, the majority of courses toward the BSN will be completed online. The program strives to reduce the traditional barriers frequently experienced by students who have the goal of being accepted directly into a BSN program at a university.
“The agreement with SFA allows nursing students who are accepted into the Associate Degree Nursing program at Panola College and who have completed required core courses for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing to take online courses with SFA toward a BSN while completing an ADN at Panola College,” said Annissa Jackson, the chair of nursing programs at Panola College.
SFA and Panola College have established a number of partnerships over the years with the goal of creating a seamless transition for students who wish to continue their education beyond an associate degree.
“Panola College is excited about this new framework for an articulation agreement with SFA,” said Dr. Gregory Powell, Panola College president. “SFA is a preferred destination for our students, and this agreement will ease that transition for our students.”

December 7, 2021 - The Gas Compressor Association donated $17,000 to Panola College’s School of Energy on Thursday, December 2. The donation was presented by Joni Rice and Roy Saxon, representatives from McClung Energy Services LLC and Estis Compression.
“The Gas Compressor Association has been a great supporter of the School of Energy,” said Daniel Hall, School of Energy Chair at Panola College. “With these funds, we will be able to provide hands-on equipment for students to complete the training they will need before entering an ever-evolving workforce, as well as to provide scholarships within the energy program.”
Hall, along with Dr. Gregory Powell, Panola College President, and Michael Pace, School of Energy Instructor, accepted the donation on the Panola College campus in Carthage.
“We are proud to be a part of the Gas Compressor Association and partners with McClung Energy Services and Estis Compression,” continued Hall. “The energy program at Panola College would not be possible without the industry support that we have.”
