February 2, 2021 - The 2021-2022 endowed scholarship application is available now through Wednesday, March 31, 2021. Students planning to attend Panola College during the 2021-2022 academic year are strongly encouraged to complete the application and take advantage of this opportunity.
Through the generosity of alumni and friends of Panola College, over 145 endowed scholarships have been created throughout the years. The scholarships are awarded on an annual basis to students for various reasons such as financial need, academic standing, and participation in a fine arts or student activities group.
“We were able to award around 100 scholarships to students last year due to the generosity of our donors,” said Jessica Pace, Director of Institutional Advancement. “We hope to be able to award even more this year.”

March 12, 2021 - The Panola College Foundation is excited to announce Drive-In Designer Purse Bingo as its spring fundraiser. The event will be held at the Carthage Civic Center on Friday, April 16, 2021. This event has been adapted from the annual Designer Purse Bingo that is always a sell out with 550 attendees in the past.
“We will have two huge drive-in movie screens and the audio for the evening will be piped in through the vehicle's FM radio,” said Jessica Pace, Director of Institutional Advancement at Panola College. “Attendees are welcome to bring chairs, tables, food and drinks to enjoy a tailgate-style evening. We are encouraging attendees to decorate their space and tables to really take advantage of the fun night out.”
Each group will have two parking spots – one for vehicle parking and one to set up any chairs or tables. There will be a parking space separating each group as well. Vehicle admission tickets are priced at $80, which includes two (2) admission tickets and the option to add up to eight (8) additional admission tickets per vehicle. General admission tickets include a dauber and 36 game cards (3 per game). Gates will open at 6:30pm and games will begin at 7:30pm. All proceeds from the event will go to support students, faculty, staff and special projects at Panola College.
“The Panola College Foundation has had a wonderful response at our past seven Designer Purse Bingo fundraisers,” said Vicky Hudson, Panola College Foundation Chair. “This event is a large part of the Panola College Foundation fundraising efforts to provide student scholarships and program grants each year. At the start of the pandemic, these funds allowed the Foundation to provide emergency grants to students to help them complete the spring semester despite the challenges.”

February 19, 2021 - The Panola College Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) and Vocational Nursing (VN) programs are accepting applicants until March 1, 2021.
Students accepted to the VN track will begin the program in August. Applications can be picked up beginning Feb. 1 on the Carthage campus and on the Center campus.

Students accepted to the ADN traditional two-year track will begin the program in August. Students accepted to the ADN one-year hybrid LVN-RN transition track will begin the program during the summer.

February 16, 2021 - Panola College will continue altered operations on Friday, February 19 due to inclement weather. All courses will be through virtual instruction from February 15-19. Faculty and staff will be available by phone and email. All locations will be closed to the public during altered operations. Regular operations will resume Monday, February 22, 2021.

February 10, 2021 - Panola College will offer a total of 24 courses during the Spring Flex Term, the majority of which will be offered online. The eight-week courses will begin March 8 and end May 6.
Spring Flex Term courses cover the same material as their full semester counterparts but are condensed into an eight-week timetable. These accelerated courses are beneficial to students who work full time while simultaneously working toward earning a degree or certificate.

February 2, 2021 - The Panola College Men’s Rodeo Team won the first spring rodeo of the Southern Region circuit this past weekend hosted by Texas A&M – Commerce in Sulphur Springs at the Hopkins County Expo Center. Panola is stretching its lead in the region as they continue towards the opportunity to return to CNFR to defend the National Championship. Panola finished in front of Texas A&M-Commerce in 2nd, 3rd – McNeese State University, 4th – Sam Houston State and Wharton, 6th – Hill College, 7th – South West Texas Jr. College, 8th – Texas A&M University, and 9th – Trinity Valley Community College.
The Panola men’s team dominated the saddle bronc by taking 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th places. Michael Womack continues to shine as he won the saddle bronc and jumped to second in the Southern Region, followed by Kaul Runfola in 2nd, Gauge McBride in 4th, and Clint Franks in 5th.
Panola’s calf ropers also kept pace as Macon Murphy took 2nd, Thomas Wallace 3rd, and Kincaide Henry finished 6th. Henry is sitting 2nd in the Region with Murphy in 3rd, and Wallace in 6th.
Kolt Dement racked up more points and is extending his lead in the region as he finished in 3rd place this past weekend. Gauge McBride added more points with a 5th place finish and is in the 4th seed in bareback.
Panola’s team ropers were not to be left out as they contributed points to the win with Trace Clark and Bradford Fisher finishing in 6th place and Riley Rieken and partner finished in 7th place.
Panola College’s Women’s Team finished 7th overall. Josey Murphy led the team with a 7th place finish in the barrels and Jade Kenney an 8th place finish in the breakaway roping.
The Panola Teams will be back in action on February 12-13 at the Trinity Valley Community College Rodeo in Athens, TX.
January 29, 2021 - The defending National Champions kickoff the Southern Region Rodeo Circuit today in Sulphur Springs, TX at the Texas A&M Commerce Rodeo. Coach Jeff Collins and his team or ready to get rolling as they prepare for another run at a national championship.
The Men's Team is currently #1 in the Region, which the top two qualify for the College National Finals hosted in Casper Wyoming, June 13-19. Panola is well represented in each event and has several cowboys trying to place in the top three in order to qualify for the CNFR in their event. Freshmen, Kolt Dement and Kincaide Henry have been in the #1 spot in bareback riding and calf roping respectively since the first rodeo of the year. Other ranked team members include: Michael Womack - 2nd and Clint Franks - 8th in saddlebronc; Seth Rustin - 2nd and Gauge McBride - 7th in bullriding; Gauge McBride - 3rd and Isaac Ingram - 8th in bareback; Macon Murphy - 5th and Thomas Wallace - 7th in calf roping; Hazen Martin - 10th in steerwrestling; Riley Rieken -7th, Brady Blanchard and Kincaide Henry - 10th, Thomas Wallace and Jacques Trahan - 15th in team roping.
The Women's team is currently #8 in the Southern Region. Cowgirls in the rankings making a run at the CNFR include: Josey Murphy - 4th in breakaway roping and #10 in goat tying; Abbie Muckelroy - 12th in barrelracing; and Neely Grover - #13 in goat tying.

College Rankings
January 27, 2021 - Panola College was awarded $112,500 in Texas Reskilling Grants by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB).
The THECB awarded a total of $18.1 million to 40 applicants, representing 49 institutions across the State. The program is supported by a portion of the $175 million allocated to the THEBC from the Governor’s Emergency Educational Relief (GEER) Fund.
The grants will provide financial assistance to Texas students who wish to return to school but need help covering the cost of tuition and fees.
“We are excited about the Texas Reskilling Support Fund Grant Program and the impact that it will have for our community,” said Dean of Health Sciences Kelly Reed-Hirsch, who played a role in writing the grant. “This grant will enable Texans to return to college to finish their certificate or degree or improve upon their skills – upskill – and get back into the workforce following stopping-out or dropping-out of college.”
According to Harrison Keller, the Commissioner of Higher Education, the grants will play an important role in supporting Texas students as well as driving the recovery of the Texas economy from the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We can help students who have previously stopped out of higher education without completing a postsecondary credential as well as help displaced Texas workers who need to reskill and upskill and complete a higher education credential so they can rejoin the workforce and get back on their feet,” Keller said. “Our Texas institutions are making significant commitments to create programs that keep more students on track to enter the workforce with the high-value credentials and education that tomorrow’s economy will demand.”
