Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at Shelbyville Dragons’ Gymnasium –

Shelbyville Independent School District held their annual Meet the Dragons event on Tuesday. High School Principal Mario Osby recognized this year’s participants for band, cheerleading, football and volleyball.

During the ceremony the band and cheerleaders, as well as the Dragon’s Mascot gave well-polished performances. The event had a pep rally atmosphere and many community members and faculty showed up to pack Dragon’s Gym and give them support for a successful 2018-19 school year.

The Dragon’s football team was picked #3 for District 12-2A by Dave Campbell’s Football Magazine. San Augustine, last year’s state runner-up (14-1), was picked first. Groveton is picked second for the conference. They were 6-4 last season. Others competing  in District 12 are, Deweyville, Hull-Daisetta, and Pineland West Sabine.

August 21, 2018 (Flyer) - Shelby County Football League is under the direction of the City of Center. Registration will be in the Center Middle School Cafeteria on August 17th and August 21st rom 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM.

4/5 Flag and 6/7 Flag is $75 per player. 8/9 Tackle and 10-12 Tackle is $100 per player.

The Center Roughriders held their annual Media Day Event in celebration of the beginning of this football season. Center's Varsity, Junior Varsity, Freshmen teams, as well as coaches and staff, had photos taken at the high school gymnasium. Center will scrimmage at Spring Hill High School on Friday. The Roughriders' first regular season game is at home, on August 31, 2018, with the Tatum Eagles at 7:30 p.m. This will be Center's Senior Night Game and home opener.

Friday, August 10, 2018, Tenahas’ Raymond Jackson Stadium –

On Friday, Tenaha Independent School District held their annual Press Day and photo media release event.

Players, coaches, cheerleaders, band, and support staff, as well as photographers, and local media outlets were all in attendance.

Tenaha and the community are looking forward to seeing these programs take the field in two weeks. Preparations and practices are already under way.

August 6, 2018 - Joaquin Youth Football signups will be on the following dates at FBC Haslam:

  • Sunday, August 12th 2-4

Practices will start August 13th at 7am.

Opening Day is schedule for September 15th

Divisions are 6-7 Flag, 8-9 Tackle, and 10-12 Tackle. Tackle players need to be present at sign ups for sizing.

Registration fees are Flag $60 and Tackle $90. Please bring a copy of player’s birth certificate if one wasn’t turned in last year.

August 3, 2018 - (Album1, Album2, Album3, Album4, Album5) - Center, Texas hosted the 2018 Dixie Youth League World Series Tournament and welcomed 48 teams in an opening ceremony held July 20, 2018.

Center High School, July 31, 2018 –

On Tuesday, Center Roughriders postman Reggie Daniels II signed a college letter of intent to play basketball with the Paris Junior College Dragons. Daniels plans to study criminal justice this coming fall.

Last season, as a senior, Daniels scored 13 points per game, had 447 points, and led the ‘Riders with 324 total rebounds, a 10 rebound per game average. The Roughriders took the District 16 4A Class II title and were 32-3 on the season. They finished the season with a loss to Carter High School in the Regional Semifinals which ended an 8 game winning streak for Center. Center also had a 17 game winning streak at the mid-point of last season.

Paris Junior College was founded in 1924. They have three campuses in Texas, Paris, Sulphur Springs, and Greenville. All three schools combined total around 5000 students.

The 2004-05 Paris Junior College Basketball team won the Division I NJCAA Championship. PJC has had many conference titles in various men’s and women’s sports over the years.

Daniels had his family present, as well as CHS Coaches Hiram Harrison, Alex Munoz, Athletic Director Barry Bowman, media, and Principal Matthew Gregory were also in attendance.

July 24, 2018 - A Cross Country parent meeting will be held on Friday, July 27th at 6:00 PM. The meeting will take place in the Center High School cafeteria. All Cross Country information will be covered including coaches' expectations, weekly schedule and competition schedule.
