April 4, 2017 (Bracket) - Center Roughriders soccer team defeated East Chambers in overtime 3-1 in Jasper on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 in the Regional Quarterfinal game of the 4A Boys Soccer State Championship.

The next round, Regional Semifinals will be at 3pm April 7th at A&M Consolidated High School against the Washington Eagles.

April 4, 2017 - The UIL District Tournament has a bad weather day of April 11th if the team does not complete in the tournament on Monday, April 10th. The 1st and 2nd place finishers in the Varsity brackets will advance to the UIL Region tournament held the following week at Longview HS April 18-19.

March 29, 2017 - The 1st Annual Stanley Burgay Memorial Bass Tournament was held on March 25th at Cassells Boykin Park on Lake Sam Rayburn. This project was set up in memory of the late Stanley Burgay and all proceeds of the event will fund scholarships to local and area students. 

This event would not have been possible without the support of the committee members that worked hard and planned this event. Also, the success of the event was achieved from all of the support of the sponsors, donors, and anglers that participated in this years’ tournament. Plans are being made now to organize the 2018 event and anyone interested is welcome to volunteer.

Forty-eight teams entered the event and it took some heavy weights to make it to the pay window with two locals dominating the leaderboard! Bobby Addison and Clarence Sanderson ran away from the field with a five bass limit weighing in at 28.06lbs. In addition, the team had the overall big bass of the event at 10.56lbs!

The team of Mooney and Thomas had five bass weighing 22.45lbs finishing in second place and also had the second place overall big bass of 8.49lbs. The third place team of James Jarod and Justin Morton came in a close third place with a limit weighing 22.25lbs. Fourth place was awarded to the team of Haddox and Wise with 22.20lbs.

The team of Dristell and McCreight had another big sack of bass weighing 22.10 lbs followed by the sixth place and final team to make it to the pay window, Albert Collins and Dicky Newberry.

Tuesday, March 28, 2017, Center Roughriders Ballpark –

The Lady Roughriders Varsity Softball Team got their first District 19 Class 4A win when they defeated visiting Tatum High School 5-1 on Tuesday. Center’s overall record now stands at 2-5-1.  The Lady ‘Riders now have a 1-2 district record. Tatum’s conference mark falls to 0-3.

The Lady Eagles scored first with a towering solo-home run by Karrisa Hernandez which led off the second inning, and gave Tatum a 1-0 lead. Center's MeKayla Hubbard was able to only allow Tatum two more hits during the rest of the contest and this would be the final Eagles score. She also struck out nine Tatum batters during the game.

The Lady Roughriders tied the game at 1-1 when they got a lead-off single by Mekayla Hubbard. Pinch runner, SydneyJo Sears later scored on a ball which passed behind the Tatum catcher after she had advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Tionna Eberlan moments earlier, and then she advanced to third base by tagging on a fly ball to the outfield.

Center gained a 4-1 lead with a big third inning which saw scores by Taylor Nichols, LaJada Hicks and Maddie Russell. Nichols drove in Kalei LaRock with a sacrifice single to leftfield, for the game’s final score, in the bottom of the fourth inning. Center out hit Tatum 12-3 on the night.

Coach Erin McMichael and her staff will prepare the Lady Roughriders to face the Henderson Lady Lions at Henderson High School next Friday, March 31, 2017 at 6 p.m. Henderson fell 7-2 to Carthage on Tuesday and they have a 1-2 conference standing.

March 27, 2017 - Kawon McCowin placed second at the State powerlifting meet held in Abilene, TX this weekend.. He had a total weight of 1610. He was tied for 3rd after the squat where he did 650. After benching 385 he was second going into the dead lift.

He would finish the meet in 2nd Place after his 575 dead lift. Kawon was ranked 7th coming into the meet. All of  Kawon's final lifts were personal best for him. We are extremely Proud of Kawon!  

He represented Shelbyville High School very well.

March 27, 2017 - The Lil' Center Riders 12u Major basketball team would like to announce their win in Teague, Tx this past weekend. The Riders defeated Groesbeck & Mexia and are the 2017 Regional Champions! The Lil' Riders will compete for the National title in Canton, Tx on April 19-22nd.

March 24, 2017 - The Joaquin Rams baseball game scheduled for today (March 24) has been cancelled and rescheduled for tomorrow, March 25th at 1:00 p.m. in Joaquin.  Please note that tomorrow's game time and location is subject to change due to field condition. Stay tuned for updates!

March 22, 2017 - The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) has awarded Hiram Harrison the Outstanding Coach Award.

TABC recipients are nominated by Texas high school basketball coaches and voted on by regional coordinators and committees and Harrison was selected for Class 4A Region II.

Coach Harrison lead the Roughriders through a great season which ended in the Regional Semifinals round of playoffs with a 8-0 district record and 32-5 season.

Under his leadership, 12th grader Octaxious Evans was selected as TABC Boys All State Class 4A. He also had two players, Octaxious Evans and 11th grader JaTerious Evans selected as TABC 2016-17 Boys All-Region Selections.

Being awarded Outstanding Coach for Class 4A Region II also made Harrison one of four finalists for the overall Don Coleman Award which is one nominee from each of the four UIL regions. Although the award did not go to Coach Harrison, it is still a great honor to be in the finalist list. The award is named after Don Coleman, Hall of Fame coach and former TABC president from Memorial High School in Spring Branch ISD (Houston).

Roughriders Ballpark - Tuesday, March 21, 2017 – The Center Roughriders Varsity baseball team gained their first lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, and held on to take a 5-4 win over the visiting Garrison Bulldogs.

Garrison Bulldogs pitcher Chris Edwards struck out five Roughrider batters, during the first three innings,  which helped GHS set Center High School down in 1-2-3 order, and lead 1-0 after a score by Bulldog Logan Stoddard.

Garrison gained another score and led 2-0 in the top of the fourth inning, due to a wild pitch getting behind Center’s catcher.

The Roughriders bounced back and tied the game in the bottom of the fourth frame at 2-2 with scores from Clay Snider, and Dalton Alexander, who started off the inning with a leadoff double.

Sean Slowikowski and Chris Edwards scored in the top of the fifth inning, giving Garrison a 4-2 advantage.

‘Rider Tyler Fountain doubled of the left field wall to start the bottom of the fifth inning and he later scored on a passed ball to bring Center to within 3-4 of the Bulldogs. Christian Lee scored for Center on an error later in the inning and tied the game at 4-4, after he had reached base by drawing a walk.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Jaxon Covington led off the inning with a single and was later driven in with an RBI single by Tyler Fountain. The Roughriders were able to later shut down the Bulldogs by setting them down 1-2-3, in the bottom of the seventh frame on two ground balls and a pop-up.

Center is now 8-8 overall and they are 1-2 in District 16 Class 4A competition. Garrison is 5-6 for the season and they have a 1-2 District 22 Class 3A record.

The Roughriders will host the Rusk Eagles this Friday, March 24 at 7 p.m. in a district game.
