All Special Olympians

March 29, 2016 (Album1, Album2, Album3) - March 23, 2016, Shelbyville ISD hosted the 1st Annual Shelbyville Dragons Special Olympics Track and Field Meet.  There were athletes from: Timpson, Joaquin, Center, Sabine County, and Shelbyville.All Special Olympians  

All of the athletes competed in a walking/running event and a field event.

Three teams also competed in the 4X100 Relay with Shelbyville teams coming in 1st and 2nd, and Sabine County came in 3rd.   The gold medal Relay time was 1:12:94, Silver medal winners had a time of 1:14:15, and the Bronze winners had a time of 1:14:83.

Timpson Special Olympians and coachesOther running events included: 10 M Assisted Walk, 50 M Assisted Walk, 400 M Walk, Girls 50 M Dash, Boys 50 M Dash, and the Boys 100 M Dash. Field events included: Girls Tennis Ball Throw, Boys Tennis Ball Throw, Girls Softball Throw, Boys Softball Throw, and the Boys Mini Javelin Throw. 

All athletes participating were from age 8 to high school.  Timpson brought 2 athletes and won 3 gold medals, and one silver medal.  Joaquin Brought 5 athletes and won 4 gold medals, 5 silver medals, and 1 bronze medal.  Center brought 5 athletes and won 4 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 3 bronze medals.  Sabine County brought 7 athletes and won 8 gold medals, 4 silver medals, and 4 bronze medals.  The home team Shelbyville Dragons had 13 athletes and they won 10 gold medals, 13 silver medals, and 3 bronze medals.

All athletes, coaches and volunteers enjoyed hamburgers and hotdogs which were cooked by Farmers State Bank and Shelbyville Lions Club, and sacked up by countless volunteers.

It was a great day for all that participated.  A huge thank you to the cookers, countless volunteers, Shelbyville High School athletes, sponsors, and all the schools who participated and helped make this event happen.  We look forward to making this an annual event which continues to grow from year to year.

Sabine County Special Olympians

March 28, 2016 - The Center Roughrider Soccer team will compete against Hardin Jefferson on Friday, April 1, 2016 at 7pm in the Area Round of Playoffs. 

The teams will play at Crockett High School, Monte Jack Driskell Stadium, located at 1600 SW Loop 304, Crockett, Texas 75835. For directions, click here.

March 25, 2016 - The Tenaha Tigers varsity baseball team gained their first District 23-2A win this season on Good Friday with a decisive 14-1 win over the winless Martinsville Pirates at Martinsville's Pirates Ballpark.

Tenaha took an early 3-0 lead with scores from Tyler Muckelroy, Trevin Stewart and Giles in the top of the first inning. James scored the Pirates only run in the bottom of the first inning after reaching base on an error and later scoring on a passes ball.

The Tigers added on four runs in the top of the second frame and Alejandro Flores struck out the first three Pirates he faced in the bottom of the second inning, helping Tenaha take a 7-1 lead into the third stanza.

Flores hit a solo home run over the left field fence with two outs in the top of the third inning to help Tenaha gain six runs in the third inning. The Tigers added one in the fourth to extend their lead to 14-1 and enforce the 10-run-rule after the MHS squad failed to score in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Tigers' Flores and Muckelroy teamed up for five strikeouts each. Martinsvilles' Hooper pitched all five innings and had eight strikeouts.

March 25, 2016 - On Monday, February 22 the Center Roughriders Varsity Golf team hosted Rusk, Huntington and Garrison High Schools in the Roughrider Invitational Golf Tournament at Center Country Club.

The Roughriders performed well and won the tourney by a large margin as their nearest competition trailed by 68 strokes. Center's five-man team totaled 336 strokes, the second place Rusk Eagles totaled 414, the Huntington Red Devils came in third place with 428 strokes and the Garrison Bulldogs totaled 458 strokes.

The top six individual golfers were: Beau Byrnes, Center, with 75 strokes; Austin Craig, Center, 77; Zack Ritter, Center 90; Rex Kirkley, Center 94 , Blane Agnew, Center,  98 ; Colton Peters, Rusk, had 99 strokes.

The Roughriders, and Lady Roughriders, will be playing their District round at Longview's Wood Hollow Golf Course on March 28 and April 4.

March 24, 2016 - The Joaquin HS Softball game scheduled for today in Gary has been moved to a home game. It will be played in Joaquin today at 5pm.

March 24, 2016 - Lady Dragons Softball game moved to Friday, 3/25 at 10 am in Pineland.

March 24, 2016 - The JV Softball game for today, March 24 has been cancelled. Varsity will play at 4:30 at West Sabine.

March 23, 2016 - Thursday, March 24, 2016, both rider and lady rider soccer teams will travel to Athens, Texas for the first round of playoffs, to compete in a double header at Bruce Stadium, Athens High School.
