March 1, 2017 - The Shelbyville Dragons will play Friday, March 3 at 5:00 pm vs Grapeland in Jewitt-Leon, TX in the 2A Regional Semi-Finals Tournament. Shelbyville ISD will early release Friday at 1:00 pm for the Basketball Playoff game.

Tuesday, February 28, 2017, West Sabine High School –

After falling behind early, and trailing 34-50 at halftime, the Shelbyville Dragons Varsity Basketball team fought their way back to take 85-82 Regional Quarterfinal win, over the Evadale Rebels. The win advanced Shelbyville to the Regional Tournament at Jewett-Leon High School this Friday, March 3, 2017. The game will be at 5 p.m. with the Grapeland Sandies.

The Dragons trailed by as many as 19 points during the second quarter but fought back to pull to within 16 points by the midway break, trailing 34-50 at halftime.

Dragons postman Cole Ferguson exploded for 13 points during the third period to help Shelbyville outscore the Rebels 29-13 during the frame. The two teams headed into the final period with the game knotted at 63-63.

The fourth quarter saw Ferguson score ten more points, and teammate Jakovian Buckley hit six clutch free throws, to help SHS gain the 3-point final margin of victory.

Dragons Basketball Coach David Schmitt said, “Even when we trailed, we knew the kids would keep fighting and it really paid off tonight. We look forward to representing our school at the regional tournament.”

Ferguson was high-scorer for the Dragons with 33 points. Teammate Jakovian Buckley had 15, Jordan Boykins 14, Trez Barnes 10, Trae Polley 10, and Kirktric Allen hit three points.

Brady Griffin led the Rebels with 22 points.

Varsity Tennis

March 1, 2017 - The Varsity Tennis team competed in the Nacogdoches tournament this past Friday, February 24th. The tournament played out all of the places and the results are as follows:

March 1, 2017 - CISD will release early on Friday, March 3rd, to accommodate those traveling to Commerce for the Regional basketball tournament.

Transportation
The Center ISD Transportation Department will be providing fan buses to the Basketball game on Friday, March 3, 2017.

Prices will not include tickets into the game. Fan bus prices are: Adults $5.00, Students $3.00 and children under 5 years of age are free.

All students under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Please call the Transportation Department at 936-598-2880 to reserve your seat on the bus. The buses will be loading at the OLD Bus Barn located on Stadium drive near Moffett at 12:30 p.m. The buses will be leaving promptly at 1:00 to ensure on time arrival at the game.

March 1, 2017 - Results from Tuesday nights Shelby County High School basketball playoff games.

Shelbyville 85 Evadale 82 in a game played at West Sabine High School

Shelbyville now 26-5 advances to the round of Sweet 16 for a Region 3 Tournament simi- final game against (31-5) Grapeland who defeated LaPoynor 62 - 54 to advance.

Game is scheduled at Leon High School in Jewett, Texas at 5 PM Friday, March 3.

Tenaha 74 San Augustine 70 in a game played at Central Heights High School.

Tenaha now advances to the round of Sweet 16  for a Region 3 Tournament semi-final game against the winner of last nights game between Italy and Big Sanday. The game is scheduled at Leon High School in Jewett, Texas at 7:30 Friday, March 3. The winner will play the winner of the Shelbyville and Grapeland game for the right to advance to the Texas High School Championship Tournament in San Antonio.

Center 72 Pleasant Grove 58

Center now 32-4 advances to the Regional Tournament at TAMU-Commerce to play Argyle (29-4) at 6 PM Friday, March 3. The winner will play the winner of the Lincoln and Paris game for the right to advance to the Texas High School Championship Tournament in San Antonio.

February 21, 2017, Central Height High School –

The Tenaha Tigers gained a narrow 3 point lead at the end of the first quarter and stretched it to eight points over the New Summerfield Hornets by halftime in route to taking a 69-52 Bi-District win, on Tuesday.

The Tigers led 22-19 at the end of the first period, 38-30 at halftime and 53-38 at the end of three quarters.

Three Hornets carried the bulk of New Summerfield’s scoring as Cody Wilkerson, Jesse Mendoza and Brad Davis each scored 15 points apiece.

Tenaha players scoring were, Jaqualin Franks 20 points, Hayden Jenkins 14, Josh Walters 12 points, Cody Foshee 7, Trai Garner 6, Jay Lloyd 6, Juarmez Brock 2, and T. Giles scored one point.

The Tigers will next face the Class 2A District 23 runner up Broaddus Bulldogs at Angelina College, on Thursday February 23, at 6:30 p.m. Broaddus beat West Hardin 47-44. West Hardin was the third place representative from District 24.

February 21, 2017, Central Heights High School –

The Tenaha Lady Tigers Varsity Basketball team took a convincing 20-7 lead over the Douglass Lady Indians and never looked back as they took a 65-30 Area Round win on Tuesday. The Lady Tigers will be headed to their third Class 2A Regional Tournament appearance in the last four seasons.

Coach Garry Davison’s Lady Tigers outpaced Douglass 16-10 in the second stanza and held a 36-17 advantage at the halftime intermission.

The Lady Indians saw only three of their players score in the third period, and only two Indians players scored a total of 5 points in the final frame.

Tenaha was led by post/ center Arlicia Roland with 28 points. Other Lady Tigers scoring were, Bianca Davison 15, Shayla Parks 14, Brooke McClure 5, and Jaden Washington with 3 points.

Douglass was led by Briley Garner with 9 points.

Tenaha will have an early release, 1:30 p.m., as they head to Leon High School were they will face Centerville at 7:30 p.m.

Rusk Eagles Gymnasium, Tuesday February 21, 2017 –

The Center Roughriders gained the lead, with 7 minutes remaining in the first quarter, and they never looked back as they took a 55-point win, in their Bi-District Varsity Basketball Playoff game with the Gladewater Bears. The game took place at Rusk Eagles Gymnasium, a neutral playoff site.

Using 7 first quarter points by Caleb Parks, and six more from Reggie Daniels, Center took an impressive 24-6 lead by the end of the first quarter of play.

The second stanza saw the Roughriders boost their lead to 46-12 as they once again held the Bears to just six points while six Center players scored a total of 22 points during the frame.

Center outpaced Gladewater in the third quarter by outscoring the Bears 19-10. This allowed CHS to extend their lead to a 65-22 going into the fourth quarter.

The Roughriders outscored GHS by a 21-9 margin in the final period which brought the final score to 86-31 and sent Center High School on to the Area round of the UIL playoffs.

Only one Gladewater player scored double figures, Austin Hawley with 18 points.

Center was led by Kaleb Parks with 22 points, Octavius Evans 16, Kyle Parks 13, Reggie Daniels 11, Jaterious Evans 10, Jamar’h Johnson 7, Austin Craig 5, Ja’dus Johnson 2, Kameron Elmer 2, and Jakavian Calhoun with 2 points.

Center Head Basketball Coach Hiram Harrison said, “We are getting healthy at this point in the season. Mabank is an athletic team and they run their game plan well. We will need to play good defense and shoot well like we did tonight.”

Center is tentatively set to play Mabank High School at Tyler Junior College on Friday but details haven’t yet been made available.
