Last week Shelby County Varsity Football teams went a combined 3-2.

The Center Roughriders fell to the visiting North Desoto La. Gremlins 71-48. The ‘Riders are now 2-1 and will travel to Daingerfield to face the Tigers (2-1). The Tigers lost at home to Timpson by a 54-28 score. Kickoff at Tigers Stadium is on Friday, September 16 at 7:30 p.m. Daingerfield fell at home to Timpson 54-28 last week.

The Joaquin Rams enjoyed a 2022 Homecoming win over county rival Tenaha by a 56-6 score. The Rams are now 2-1 and will enjoy an off week. They will next face Shelbyville in two weeks on September, 23 at home. The Tenaha Tigers are 2-1 and will host the Arp Tigers this Friday, September 16 at 7 p.m. Arp is 0-3 and fell at home to Carlisle by a 60-30 score.

The Shelbyville Dragons (2-1) took a 43-21 road win over the Elysian Fields Yellowjackets to move their record to 2-1. The Dragons will now host the KIPP Generations Academy Jaguars for their 2022 SHS Homecoming on Friday, September 16 at 7 p.m. KIPP (1-1) fell at home to KIPP East End last week by a 14-6 score.

The Timpson Bears are the last remaining undefeated team in Shelby County and they boast a 3-0 win-loss record after getting a 54-28 road win over the Daingerfield Tigers. The Bears will host the Waskom Wildcats on Friday, September 16 at 7 p.m. Waskom (1-1) fell to the Sabine Cardinals 36-34 on the road.

September 13, 2022 - The Center Varsity tennis team split their last two matches. They lost to the #4 state ranked Lindale Eagles on Saturday, September 10th with a final tournament result of 1-18 and won over Kilgore 14-5 at home on Monday, September 12th. 

Against Kilgore, the girls once again swept their matches winning all the girls doubles, mixed, and singles. The overall total against Kilgore was Center 16 - Kilgore 5.

In upcoming matches, the Junior Varsity team will travel to Lufkin on Thursday, September 15, 2022 and Varsity team will play at home against Jacksonville on Tuesday, September 20, 2022.

September 12, 2022 - Thursday night September 15th, 2022 the Dragons will have three football games in Shelbyville starting with the 7th grade at 5pm. The 7th and 8th grade will play San Augustine and the JV team will play Center's Freshman team.

The Joaquin Rams varsity football team enjoyed a 56-6 2022 Homecoming win over their Shelby County rivals the Tenaha Tigers. Both team’s regular season record now stands at 2-1.

Tenaha turned the ball over when their first drive stalled and the punt attempt saw the snap sail over the punters head.

The Rams got on the scoreboard early when junior runningback Jericho Newman found the endzone on a 5-yard touchdown run with 8:27 left in the first quarter. Jose Bravo added the first of his 8 extra point kicks for the night and Joaquin led 7-0.

In the second quarter senior runningback Malik Storrs went 59 yards for a touchdown run which gave JHS a 21-0 lead with 9:54 left. Rams junior quarterback Gauge Jordan added three scoring runs from 25, 32, and 78 yards which gave Joaquin a 42-0 lead at halftime.

Tenaha got on the board when sophomore receiver Brikelian Kenney scored on a 31-yard touchdown to cut Joaquin’s lead to 42-6 early in the third period. Joaquin bounced back with a 56-yard score from senior back Andre Brown. JHS took a 49-6 lead into the fourth quarter of play.

Joaquin added another score in the final period to earn the win.

The Rams will host the Shelbyville Dragons in two weeks on Friday, September 23, 2022. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. in Rams Stadium. Shelbyville is 2-1 and they beat Elysian Fields on the road by a 43-21 score.

Tenaha will host the Arp Tigers (0-3) on Friday, September 16, 2022. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. at Tenaha’s Raymond Jackson Stadium. Arp lost at home to Carlisle by a 60-30 score.

The Center Roughriders varsity football team fell to the visiting North Desoto Griffins by a 71-42 final score on Friday. The Griffins took a 7-0 lead just 14 seconds into the contest when Cole Cory took the opening kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown to open the game. Sam Odom added the extra point kick.

Center fumbled the ball to the Griffins on their first drive but the Griffins returned the favor when they fumbled the ball back at the Center 1-yard line. With 10:22 minutes left in the first quarter, North Desoto’s Kaleb Carter recovered another Center fumble in the endzone and NDHS went ahead of Center by a 14-0 score. Carter recovered yet another fumble for the Griffins and they scored on a 12-play drive, and went up 21-0, with 4:19 left in the opening period. Lincoln Cooper scored on a blocked punt returned for a score which gave NDHS a 28-0 lead with 3:09 left in the first stanza.

Center got on the board when quarterback Emonte Cash Cross hit Christopher Marr Mar Evans for a 56-yard touchdown catch and run. A Debraylon Moore extra point kick pulled CHS to within three touchdowns of Desoto with the score at 28-7.

The second quarter saw Luke Delafield hit Landon Falls for a touchdown reception with 11:57 left. The Griffins led 35-7.

Center bounced back when Kaden Dixon scored from 11 yards out at the 8:33 mark to cut the Griffin’s lead to 35-14.

The Griffins led 43-14 after a Brian Banks touchdown with 6:12 left in the first half.

 With 4:10 left before the intermission, Cross hit Evans for a 27-yard ‘Riders touchdown reception and the NDHS lead was cut to 43-21.

Another Griffins drive was thwarted when ‘Riders defensive back JaKeyvius Polk picked off a NDHS pass with just 30 seconds left until the midway break. The Griffins took a 43-21 lead into the second half of play.

The third quarter saw the Griffins add two touchdowns and take a 57-21 lead into the fourth quarter.

Center got two Evans scores with 11 minutes remaining and 5:36 which pulled them to within 71-35. TJ Davis also scored with 39 seconds remaining which put the final tally at North Desoto 71 Center 42.

The Roughriders win-loss record now stands at 2-1. Center will travel to Daingerfield next Friday, September 16, 2022 for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at Tigers Stadium. Daingerfield is 2-1 and fell at home to the Timpson Bears by a 54-28 score on Friday.

September 8, 2022 - The Center Roughrider Varsity team match against Kilgore has been moved to 4pm on Monday, September 12 in Center.

The Junior Varsity tennis team has added a match to their schedule. They will host Hudson at home on Thursday, September 22.

September 7, 2022 - In team tennis competition, the Riders swept their last two opponents.

On Saturday, September 3, 2022 the Riders hosted Henderson and swept the Lions 19-0 officially and 26-1 with all extra matches played.

Tuesday, September 6 competing against District opponent Pineywoods Academy, the Riders kept the momentum going with a clean sweep of all the matches 20-0.

In upcoming matches, Center will travel to Lindale on Saturday, September 10 and then play host to Kilgore at 4pm on Monday, September 12. Go Riders!!!!

All five of Shelby County’s varsity football teams competed again last Friday.

The Center Roughriders moved their record to 2-0 with a convincing 63-6 home win over the Spring Hill Panthers. Center will host the North Desoto Griffins on Friday, September 9, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. The Griffins have no posted scores.

The Joaquin Rams fell to the Beckville Bearcats by a 42-41 score at Bearcats Stadium. The Rams are now 1-1 and will host the Tenaha Tigers next Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 7 p.m., at Rams Stadium for Joaquin’s 2022 Homecoming. Tenaha is 2-0 after pulling off a 12-6 overtime road win over the San Augustine Wolves.

The Shelbyville Dragons are now 1-1 as they fell at home to the Hemphill Hornets by a 61-12 score. The Dragons will regroup and head to Elysian Fields High School on Friday, September 9, for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff at Yellowjackets Stadium. The Yellowjackets are 0-2 after falling to visiting Dekalb 44-12.

The Timpson Bears improved to 2-0 with a 52-29 road win over the Jefferson Bulldogs. The Bears head to Daingerfield on Friday, September 9 for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Tigers Stadium. Daingerfield is 2-0 after beating visiting Tatum 48-35.
