February 23, 2022 - The Dragons boys basketball will play in the Area Playoff game on Friday, Febuary 25 at Gary versus Beckville at 7 pm. Admission is $5.

Coaches passes, district passes and Sr. Citizen passes will be accepted. The Dragons are visitors.

Both Shelbyville and Tenaha High School varsity boy’s basketball teams had back-to-back bi-district playoff elimination games at Cushing High School on Tuesday.

The Shelbyville Dragons came away with a 66-47 win over the West Sabine Tigers in a showdown between District 23 2A third seed and the District 24 second seed.

West Sabine led 4-2 halfway through the opening period but SHS came back to tie the game at 12-12 at the end of the first quarter. Shelbyville outscored WSHS 17-7 in the second stanza and the Dragons took a 29-19 lead into the midway intermission.

The third period saw the Dragons build on their lead and they took a 43-30 lead into the final period.

The fourth period saw the Tigers fight their way back some but the Dragons were able to maintain a lead throughout and take the 66-47 win.

Shelbyville had three players score in double figures: Michael Carrillo had 19, DJ Barnes 15 and Tre McGee had ten points. WSHS was led by Quentin Smith with 14 points.

Shelbyville will move on to the Area round of the UIL Basketball Playoffs later this week.

The Tenaha Tigers second seed for District 23 next faced the Broaddus Bulldogs who came in as third seed of District 24. The Tigers took an 11-3 lead by midway through the first period and they led 21-10 at the buzzer which sent the game into the second quarter. THS led 34-21 at the midway break.

Tenaha led 49-32 at the end of the third frame and they eventually held on to win by a 68-36 score.

The Tigers had four players in double digits scoring: Pooh Moore had 17, Jordan Ross 15, Kamarion Ross 14 and Jeremy Patton scored 13 points. Broaddus was led by Colton Modisette and CJ Emerson with 12 points each.

Tenaha’s Area round playoff information will be made available later this week.

February 21, 2022 - The Joaquin Rams varsity baseball game scheduled for today, February 21st has been rescheduled for tomorrow, February 22nd at 6:00 p.m. The JV game is cancelled for today and will not be rescheduled.

February 21, 2022 - The Shelby County Bass Anglers (SCBA) will host the first pre-tournament meeting of 2022 Tuesday night, February 22nd at 7pm at the home of David Koonce. The tournament will be held this Saturday, February 26th out of Huxley Bay on Toledo Bend. Reminder: this is a one day event.

February 21, 2022 - The Shelbyville Dragon Boys Playoff Basketball game for Bi-District will be against West Sabine on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at Cushing. The game is the first game of a Double header and starts at 6pm.

The Dragons will be visitors. Tickets are $5 Adult and $3 Student. District, Senior Citizen, THSCA, and TABC Passes are accepted.

The Tenaha Lady Tigers varsity basketball squad competed with Woden in a Class 2A Region III Area round playoff on Friday night. The Lady Tigers clawed their way to a 29-23 win over the Woden Lady Eagles.

The game was close throughout and it was a defensive battle. The Lady Tigers held a slim lead over the Lady Eagles and never trailed. THS led 10-3 at the end of the first period and 16-8 at the halftime intermission.

Woden battled their way back and a 3-pointer by Haylee Hornbuckle cut the THS lead to just 2 points at 18-16 with less than a minute left in the third stanza. Tenaha led 20-16 going into the final period of play.

The Lady Eagles battled back to only trail by 2 points twice during the fourth quarter but they were never able to tie the game. The Lady Eagles eventually found themselves needing to foul and put the Lady Tigers at the foul line to keep THS from running out the clock.

The Lady Tigers, coached by Gary Davison, are now 27-5. They reached the playoffs as winners of District 23 Class 2A.

Woden’s season comes to an end. They were the second-place representative of District 22 and they finished with a 24-10 mark this season.

Tenaha next heads to the Texas UIL Region III Quarterfinal Basketball Playoffs where they will face Big Sandy High School at Huntington High School at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 22, 2022. Big Sandy defeated Cushing 73-9 in their Area round matchup. They are the first-place representative of District 24. BSHS has only given up 35 points during their two playoff games this season.

The Lady Tigers were led by sophomore guard Tiyanna Dagley with 11 points. Woden’s high point lady was senior forward Chelsea Brookshire with ten points.

February 17, 2022 - The Shelbyville Lady Dragons’ basketball team will play at 7pm Friday, February 18 in Tatum against Hawkins in a playoff game. The Dragons will be the home team.

All District 23 passes, senior citizens, active military, and all coaches membership cards will be honored. Tickets will NOT be sold at the door. Click here to purchase tickets! Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children.

February 16, 2022 - Center's Varsity tennis travelled to the Tyler Legacy tournament which hosted 30 schools on February 11. The tournament used 8 sites in Tyler and was full of great competition.

The Girls doubles team of Emilee Elliott / Sarah Scull finished 2nd place in the top A bracket of the tournament and the mixed doubles team of Jalen Postell / Connor McCauley finished 1st place in the C bracket.

The Varsity team will travel to Tyler on Friday, February 18 to compete in the Tyler High School Tournament hosting 12 schools.

The Tennis Junior Varsity team competed with Carthage yesterday, February 15th at home for match play. Center finished with 16 wins and 1 loss. The JV team will be traveling on March 1st to Whitehouse.

Center Roughriders Ballpark on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 –

The Center Lady Roughriders hosted the Timpson Lady Bears in a cross-county varsity softball game on Tuesday. Center took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Sayre Hall reached base on an infield error and was driven in by ShaKaidria Hubbard.

CHS was able to extend their advantage to 3-0 in the bottom of the third frame when Jakeivia Johnson drove in Hall and Hubbard for two more runs.

Center later added a run in the fourth. By the sixth inning CHS led 6-0 but Timpson fought back with a run during a rally in the top of the seventh inning.

Sophomore Julie Bird and ShaKaidria Hubbard teamed up for Center’s pitching duties. They allowed six hits and four free bases during the contest combined.

Timpson's Alexis Grigsby pitched the complete game for the Lady Bears striking out six batters and she scored the teams sole run with an inside the park homer in the sixth frame. The Lady Bears gave up 9 hits and one walk in the loss.

The Lady Bears, who still have players out who are participating in the UIL basketball playoffs, gave up nine hits, struck out six Center batters and only allowed one walk.

The Lady Bears will host the Cushing Lady Bearkats next Monday, February 21, 2022 at 5 p.m.

Center will travel to the Carthage Lady Bulldogs tournament being held February 17-19.

February 15, 2022 (Photos) - The Center Roughriders Varsity Basketball team defeated the Jasper Bulldogs at home for the 4A Region 3 District 17 Championship 58-49 on Tuesday, February 15, 2022.

The Riders were the first to score a minute into the game with #5 Makel Johnson making two free throw shots after a foul was called against Jasper. The next score came from #1 MarMar Evans throwing to #5 Johnson under the basket and Johnson got it in for another 2 points. Scoring was slow for both teams in the 1st period ending with the Riders up by 1 point, 6-5.

Second period action picked up with the Riders scoring 12 points to Jasper’s 8 points for the period with a minute left till the half and Center leading 18 to 13. Roughrider #15 Dean Lester recovered the ball after a failed attempt by the Bulldogs to score and tossed the ball to #13 Carson Bush who charged down the court scoring 2 points bringing the Riders to 20. The 2nd period ended with the Riders 22 and Jasper 18.

After the half, Center’s #12 BoBo Gipson was the first to score after a rebound by #22 Kedrin Hinson from Jasper who passed the ball and #1 Evans drove in to score, missing, with Gipson recovering and putting the ball back in the basket. Scoring action continued in the 3rd period with the Riders outscoring the Bulldogs 21 points to 8 points. The period ended with Makel Johnson recovering the ball and tossing in for 2 points as the buzzer sounded.

The 4th period began with Center 43 to Jasper 26. Jasper rallied in the final period outscoring Center for the first time in the game by 23 to 15; however, it wasn’t enough to close the spread and Center won the District Championship game for 1st place!

After the game, senior players and athletic trainers were recognized. The team is coached by Head Coach Hiram Harrison and assistant coaches Alex Munoz, Tony Turner, and Michael Cloudy.

The team has a 21-9 record overall for the season and 8-2 record for the district.
