October 19, 2021 - The Shelbyville Lady Dragon Volleyball team is currently 5-2 in District play and has an overall record of 22-12 for the season. In October the Lady Dragons have had three wins and two losses.

The Dragons traveled to San Augustine and defeated the wolves in three strong sets on October 1. In the first set Dragons won 25 to 18, second set 25 to 20, and ended the match up in the third set 25-10.

On Tuesday, October 5th, the Dragons welcomed the Bears to play at home. Timpson defeated Shelbyville in four sets for the Dragons first loss in District play. Timpson won the first set in a close matchup 25-27. The Dragons came back to win the second set 25-23. The Dragons couldn't rally another win in the second and third set losing both 25-21.

On Tuesday, October 12th, Shelbyville traveled to Gary and won in three sets. In the first set the Dragons won 25-17, the second set was 25-15, and the final set also went to the Dragons 25-16.

On Friday, October 15th, Shelbyville played Garrison at home and won in four sets. In the first set, the Lady Dragons won 25-15. The Lady Bulldogs came back in the second set to win 17-25. But the Dragons came back strong shutting down the Bulldogs in the third and forth set, 25-13 and 25-12.

October 18, 2021 - The Joaquin JV football team will play Timpson JV at Timpson this Thursday, October 21 at 5pm.

The Shelbyville Dragons varsity football team opened District 10 2A-1 play with a 32-26 home win on Friday over the Garrison Bulldogs. The win gives SHS a 5-2 overall season record.

Garrison got on the scoreboard first then Shelbyville tied the game at 6-6 when junior Zay Cartwright scored on a 97-yard reception from senior Jakory Standley with 7:28 left in the first period.

Garrison regained an advantage with 3:24 still left in the opening frame when Ja’Christopher Shepherd scored on a 5-yard touchdown and Jasper Shaw booted through an extra point kick. This gave GHS a 13-6 lead.

Standley pulled Shelbyville to within one point on an 8-yard keeper run for a score with 3:16 left in the second stanza. After a failed extra point conversion, the GHS lead stood at 13-12.

Garrison wasted no time extending their advantage as Shepherd raced 42-yards on a weaving touchdown run which gave GHS a 20-12 lead with 2:23 left until halftime.

Cartwright and Harlen West scored touchdowns in the third quarter and this gave the Dragons a 24-20 lead going into the final period.

Garrison retook the lead at 26-24 less than a minute into the final frame when Brayden Davidson burst into the endzone for a touchdown on a quarterback keeper run.

Shelbyville drove 75 yards on a drive which saw Standley score on a 1-yard keeper with 4:28 left in the contest. A 2-point conversion gave SHS a 32-26 lead which they held onto until the final buzzer.

The Dragons will travel to Joaquin next Friday, October 22, 2021 for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at Rams Stadium.

The Rams are 4-2 and they are 1-0 in conference action.

October 14, 2021 - The Center Roughriders have advanced to the area playoffs in Team Tennis. Play begins today, October 14 at 4:30pm as the Riders take on Lago Vista.

Four of Shelby County’s Five varsity football teams played games last week. The Shelbyville Dragons had an open last week.

The Center Roughriders fell to 0-6 after falling in their first District10 4A-2 conference game to the visiting Carthage Bulldogs by a 64-18 score. This week Center will travel to Shepherd High School on Friday, October 15, 2021 for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at Pirates Stadium. The Pirates are 2-4 overall and they too lost their first district game, at home to Madisonville 27-18, last Friday.

The Joaquin Rams are 4-2 and they are now 2-0 in District 10 2A-1 after beating the visiting San Augustine Wolves last week by a 46-21 score. The Rams will enjoy an open week and they will host Shelbyville in two weeks.

The Shelbyville Dragons are 4-2 this season. This week they will host the Garrison Bulldogs for the Dragons first District 10 2A-1 game. Kickoff is at Dragons Stadium on Friday, October 15, at 7:30 p.m. Garrison lost 51-0 to Timpson Bears last Friday. They are 2-3 overall and 0-1 in district.

The Tenaha Tigers are 5-2. They are 3-0 in District 11 2A play after getting a 34-20 road win over the West Sabine Tigers last Friday. Tenaha will host the Mount Enterprise Wildcats on Friday October 10. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. The Wildcats are 2-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play. They last beat the Overton Mustangs at home by a 26-8 score.

The Timpson Bears are now 5-0. The 51-0 home win over the Garrison Bulldogs gives them a 1-0 District 10 2A-1 record. They will travel to San Augustine on Friday, October 15 for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at Wolves Stadium. The Wolves are 1-6 overall and they are 0-1 in District 10 after suffering a 46-21 loss to Joaquin last Friday.

Center Roughriders Stadium on Friday, October 8, 2021 –

The Center Roughriders varsity football team faced a tough task on Friday as they hosted the undefeated 2020 State Champion Carthage Bulldogs in a District 10 4-A2 opener.

The Bulldogs won by a 64-18 score giving them a 1-0 District 10 mark and a 5-0 overall season record. Carthage has not lost since an overtime loss in the season opener of last year. The Roughriders have fallen to 0-6 this year with a 0-1 conference mark.

Friday’s game saw Carthage build an early lead. Braeden Wade pulled down a 14-yard touchdown reception which helped give the Bulldogs a 7-0 advantage with 9:31 minutes left in the first quarter. Center was forced to punt on their next possession. ‘Dogs quarterback Connor Cuff hit Wade for a 24-yard score which put the Bulldogs up 14-0 with 7:35 still left in the first quarter.

The remainder of the first stanza saw Carthage build their lead to 28-0. ‘Dogs receiver Will McDaniel extended the Carthage lead to 34-0 with 5-yard touchdown reception at the 10:35 mark of the third period.

Center got on the scoreboard when Emonte Cross hit Jamarion Evans for a 32-yard touchdown pass which cut the Carthage lead to 34-6 with 8:05 left in the second quarter. Later in the quarter Lance Wilburn took a pass from Evans and raced to the endzone for an 82-yard score. This cut the Carthage lead to 41-12 with 7:31 left until halftime.

Carthage took a comfortable 55-12 lead into the locker room at the midway break.

Wilburn added a 53-yard scoring reception to his resume with just over 3 minutes left in the contest but the game ended with Center still trailing 64-18.

The Roughriders will travel to Shepherd High School for their second conference game on Friday, October 15, 2021. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. The Pirates are 2-4 and 0-1 in league play. They fell to Madisonville in their conference opener last Friday by a 24-18 score.

October 4, 2021 - In their District Opener on Friday, September 24th, the Shelbyville Dragons tamed the Gary Bobcats in three sets. Shelbyville won 25-18, 25-13, and 25-23.

Kate Lawson had 25 assists and 9 digs. Kiana Bennett had 15 kills, 8 digs, 2 blocks, and 4 aces. Ma’Kayja Horton had 7 kills, 8 digs, and 4 aces. Cadience Thompson had 5 kills and 10 digs.

In their second District matchup, Shelbyville rolled the Garrison Bulldogs in four sets winning 3-1. The Dragons went down in the first set in a close game 25-27 but then came back strong winning the next three sets 25-19, 25-15, and 25-17.

Kate Lawson had 33 assists, 1 kill, 15 digs, and 1 block assist. Kiana Bennett had an outstanding 24 kills (career high), 2 blocks, 16 digs, and 1 ace. Ma'Kayja Horton had 7 kills, 6 digs, and 2 aces. Kara Jones had 8 kills, 7 blocks (career high), and 1 dig. Taylor Jones had 1 kill, 4 assists, 1 dig, and 1 ace. Cadience Thompson had 2 kills, 1 ace, and 2 digs. Neena Smith had 13 digs. Neera Smith had 14 digs.

For the season, the Dragons have a 19-10 overall record and a 2-0 record for district play.

October 4, 2021 - The Lady Riders won in five sets against the Lady Dragons on Tuesday, September 21. The Riders won the first set 25-20 but fell the next two sets 20-25 and 14-25. The Lady Riders refused to concede and fault back to win the last two sets 26-24 and 15-12.
