David's Daily Devotion for December 6

December 6, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, December 6.

The Wise Men, the Magi, are only mentioned in the 2nd chapter of Matthew. The verse, perhaps, that sums up who they were and what they did is Matthew 2:11 -

When they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshipped him; and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

David's Daily Devotion for December 2

December 2, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, December 2.

On this day in 1867, the British author Charles Dickens read his work in America for the very first time. The greatest writer of the Victorian era stepped onto the stage of Steinway Hall in New York City, and read from one of his most famous books - A Christmas Carol. Here are a few quotes from that classic.

*I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year long.

David's Daily Devotion for December 1

December 1, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, December 1.

The upcoming community holiday event at First Baptist Center, called “Journey to Bethlehem”, will feature a number of points of light. The guest groups will follow a path lit by hundreds of small flickering candles. The stable will be illuminated by old-fashioned oil lamps.  And the Angel will be holding a single candle.

David's Daily Devotion for November 30

November 30, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, November 30.

Well, we’re on the threshold of another December, the time to celebrate, once again, the coming of the Christ Child. But what do we really know about the story of that first Christmas? Considering the importance of the Nativity event, the Bible devotes a surprisingly small number of words to describe it.

David's Daily Devotion for November 29

November 29, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, November 29.

I think I’ve found the perfect job. I want to work for The Weather Channel as a forecaster. But I would specialize in “long-range” forecasts - at least ten days in the future. Why would this be the perfect job? Because no one really expects these forecasts to be very accurate. And by the time that future day arrives, you’ve forgotten what the prediction even was. The perfect job.

David's Daily Devotion for November 22

November 22, 2022 - Good morning! It's Tuesday, November 22.

The Apostle Paul wrote just about half of the New Testament - 12 books out of 27 - 13 if you believe that he wrote Hebrews. I don't. I like to believe, as do some theologians, that Priscilla wrote Hebrews. Out of the 66 books in the Bible, it would be nice if at least one of them was written by a woman!

David's Daily Devotion for November 21

November 21, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Monday, November 21.

Did you go to church yesterday? If you did, then I can guess what the theme of the service was - thankfulness! Our new interim pastor, Tim Watson, preached a sermon called “Thanksgiving in Three Tenses.” He reminded us that Jesus Christ has been faithful in the past. He’s faithful in the present. And He will be faithful in the future. It reminded me of Hebrews 13:8 - “Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
