December 21, 2016 - Shelby Savings Bank hosted a groundbreaking ceremony in Chireno on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 for a new 'intelligent' ATM location.

December 15, 2016 - The Stock a Ram for Santa hosted by Wright Chrysler Dodge Jeep was a success bringing in lots of toys for the Shelby County Children's Advocacy Center Toy Drive. Everyone who donated a toy was entered into a drawing for a 50" screen TV and on December 12th the winner was drawn. Congratulations to Edgar Pineda who won the drawing for the TV!

December 8, 2016 - The second day of UIL District 22AA Elementary contest was held in Joaquin on Thursday, December 8, 2016. Total school points reported at this time are Joaquin in 1st place with 509 points, Shelbyville in 2nd place with 280 points, Woden in 3rd place with 223 points, Chireno has 117 points, Timpson has 92 points, Tenaha has 57 points, and San Augustine has 38 points.
