UIL District 22AA Middle School Contest Day 1 Results (Updated)

December 6, 2016 - Middle Schools competed at Joaquin ISD in the UIL District 22AA Junior High contest on Tuesday, December 6, 2016. As of 7:40pm Joaquin was leading on the total point summary at the end of Day 1 with 226 total points followed by Woden with 205.5 points and Shelbyville with 161 points. Tenaha had 126 total points, Chireno had 56.5 points, San Augustine had 56 points and Timpson had 52 points.

December 6, 2016 - The first day of UIL District 22AA Elementary contest was held in Joaquin on Tuesday, December 6, 2016. Total school points reported at this time are Joaquin in 1st place with 241 points, Shelbyville in 2nd place with 91 points, Woden in 3rd place with 86 points, Chireno has 47 points, Tenaha has 20 points, San Augustine has 18 points, and Timpson has 8 points. TxDOT Plans Construction to US 96 Intersections

November 14, 2016 - Construction to begin on US 96 intersections to repair ruts according to a statement from the Texas Department of Transportation's Lufkin District Public Information Officer Rhonda Oaks. Drivers should use caution when traveling through any construction area.

TxDOT is working near the intersections on US 96 to rehabilitate the roadway with hot mix where rutting has recently occurred. We believe that to have happened due to heavy truck and vehicle traffic stopping at the intersections.

Town Historian Shares Glimpse of the Past, Memorial Hospital

November 10, 2016 - Buster Bounds, the local town historian, has recently been working on a project documenting the demolition of the former Shelby Regional Medical Center on Hurst Street which was also formerly Memorial Hospital. The land is currently being prepared for the construction of a new church building.

The first video is an interview for the Coffee Shop Cafe which he recorded in 1993 with the hospital's new administrator, Tony Zurbrugg. The renovation of the medical facility had just been completed.
