Joaquin ISD Monitoring Weather; Plans Late Start Wednesday (Update: 3:07pm)

January 16, 2018 - (Update: 3:07pm) - Joaquin ISD will have a late school start on Wednesday, January 17, 2018.  Classes will begin at 9am.  Buses will run approximately an hour later than usual.


January 16, 2018 - (Update: 6:12am) - Joaquin ISD will be closed today, January 16, 2018 due to weather. Classes will resume as normal on January 17, 2018.

December 19, 2017 - Colette Metcalf sent in the following poem Jack Mack, years ago, would play on KDET at Christmastime. The tape recording of the peom he played was recited by Abe Snake.

The poem and additional Jack Mack's writings can be read at the library or the Shelby County Museum in the book, "Hey, Jack Mack!"

Filing for 2018 March Primary Closes with 6 Races Unopposed Locally (Updated)

December 11, 2017 - The deadline for filing for a place on the 2018 March Primary ballot was 6pm Monday, December 11, 2017 and closed with 6 races unopposed. Candidates who filed locally primarily filed with the Republican Party with only one filing with the Democratic Party.

According to the Texas Secretary of State, Roland Pablos, the following candidates filed with the Republican and Democratic Parties of Texas.

Chavez Wins Ugly Sweater 5K with Temperatures in the 20s

December 11, 2017 (Photos coming soon!) - With 23 to 27 degree temperatures, Antonio Chavez was the first to cross the finish line at the Ugly Sweater 5K on Saturday, December 9th hosted by CHS Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) with a time of 17:22.32 and an average speed of 10.7 mph.

The winner of the Ugly Sweater contest was Benjamin Prostell.

Money raised will help HOSA purchase supplies and travel to state and national conferences.
