Johnson Earns 2023 National Watermelon Queen Title

March 1, 2023 - Shelby County’s own Olivia Johnson has received a national title as she was crowned the National Watermelon Queen at the 108th Annual National Watermelon Convention in Asheville, North Carolina on Saturday, February 25, 2023.

Commissioners Approve Tahoe for Constable 5; Add Agrilife Building to ARPA Projects

February 28, 2023 - The Shelby County Commissioners approved the purchase of a Tahoe for the Constable Precinct 5 office using City of Timpson funds during their meeting held Wednesday, February 15, 2023.

Josh Tipton, Constable Precinct 5, addressed the commissioners about a “donation” from DeSoto Parish Sheriff Jason Richards by way of a Tahoe for the price of $2,000.

Tenaha, Hurst Street Intersection in Center Scene of Two-vehicle Crash

February 26, 2023 - Center Police Department officers responded to a crash located on Tenaha Street at the entrance to Taco Bell near the Hurst Street intersection on Saturday, February 25, 2023.

Grand Jury Indicts 50 Cases; Includes Murder, Manslaughter, Improper Student/Teacher Relationship

February 22, 2023 - A Shelby County Grand Jury handed down 50 indictments including two for murder and one for manslaughter on Thursday, February 16, 2023. The grand jury was impaneled for the January 2023 term of the 123rd/273rd Judicial District Courts.

Teresa Louviere was indicted for murder, first degree felony. The indictment alleges, on November 14, 2022, Louviere caused the death of Sarah Hopson by blunt force trauma to the head with an object unknown to this grand jury. (123rd Judicial District Court)

Commissioners Move Forward with Juvenile Probation Roof Project

February 21, 2023 - The Shelby County Commissioners sought to move forward with a roofing project on the Juvenile Probation building during their meeting on February 8, 2023.

The Juvenile Probation building, located at 305 Nacogdoches Street in Center, has had several repairs to its roof in the past and the commissioners carried a motion to approve a bid from S Goodwin Roof Service, LLC in the amount of $26,733.

February 21, 2023 - Shelby County "royalty" gathered at the John D. Windham Civic Center for the 11th Annual SCCAC Princess Ball held Saturday, February 18, 2023, after tickets for the event sold out in record time.
