“A Lesson From Spot” by Doug Fincher

“If any should not work, neither should he eat…” I Thes. 3:10

September 28, 2021 - Spot, a Painted Bunting that I’ve photographed the past three years, has a new family in the sand hills near Center, Texas. All three fledglings flew into the grass where their parents often feed. They are fully feathered and except for their lack of color and yellow at the corner of their mouths, they look like adults. After their crash landing, they began frantically fluttering their wings to get fed.

"Seeing the Son Better" by Doug Fincher

“... looking unto Jesus...” Heb. 12:2

August 30, 2021 - Oley LeDoux is my wife’s father. He and Pam’s mother Gloria live in the Big Woods Community near Vinton, Louisiana in the house they built soon after they married. Oley has been a member of the nearby Magnolia Baptist Church for sixty-five years where he has served forty years as deacon and treasurer. He has been employed by the Krause and Managan Lumber Co. of Sulphur, La. for (!) sixty-two years. His steady dedication to his church, community and employer sets a standard that most men never reach.

“Remembering Wash Day” By Doug Fincher

Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord." Colossians 3:20

August 9, 2021 - As we were growing up, Monday was the most dreaded day of our summer-time week..…and it probably was for Mother, too.  It meant getting up early, gathering wood, building a fire under the wash pot, and filling up three number 2 tubs from the well. It also meant cutting up a bar of lye soap in the pot and getting our rub board and broom handle "punch stick" ready for action.

“Johnny Nichol’s Polk Berries” by Doug Fincher

August 2, 2021 - I came to San Augustine thirty years ago to meet with the Deacons of Calvary Baptist Church to discuss becoming their Pastor. Deacon Chairman Johnny Nichols immediately explained to me why his legs were so bowed. “It’s Arthur,” he laughed. I’ve tried “all but one thing” to cure my Arthritis, but nothing has helped. When I asked why he hadn’t tried “that one thing,” he said an old man gave him the cure “but I never used it.”
