January 23, 2023 - “Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.” Psalms 85:10. I woke up at three o’clock this morning with this beautiful verse by King David.
January 16, 2023 - I don’t like buttermilk; I love it. I first drank some of it in 1939. I was three years old and my parents and my 5-year-old brother Bill lived in an old unpainted shack a few miles south of Center, Texas.
December 26, 2022 - I was Pastor of The First Baptist Church of Shelbyville, Texas when Mother called me from Center saying that she had invited Joe and Mimi Boland to attend our church. “They live at the Old Center community a few miles from Joaquin,” she said. “You’ll like them the first time you see them.” The next Sunday morning, Joe came smiling his way into our sanctuary. “I’m Joe Boland,” he said as he sat down. Two weeks later, he and his wife Mimi joined our church and even though they lived thirty miles away, they seldom missed a service.
“Inasmuch as you did it to the least of these my brothers, little ones, you did it to me….” Matt. 25:35
November 21, 2022 - Deacon Jones was the most consistent and dependable deacon in my West Texas pastorate. He never missed a service, he served on the Finance and Usher’s Committees and never missed a meeting. His dress, home, automobile and lawn were immaculately neat. He was Chairman of the Deacons and was known for his prayers of thanks.
November 6, 2022 - When I was six years old, my grandmother (“Mama”) gave me a baby chick for my birthday. From the day I got her, I hand fed her…oatmeal, grain…and later grasshoppers, crickets, worms…she liked it all. And my little chicken began following me wherever I went. I named her “Susie”.
