Shelby County Under Severe Thunderstorm Warning

May 3, 2017 - The National Weather Service in Shreveport has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for south central Panola County in northeastern Texas, southeastern Rusk County in northeastern Texas, northern Nacogdoches County in eastern Texas, Shelby County in eastern Texas until 6PM CDT

At 435 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Trawick, or 10 miles north of Nacogdoches, moving east at 40 mph.

Hazard: 70 mph wind gusts and half dollar size hail.

Northern Shelby, Southern Panola Counties Under Tornado Warning

May 3, 2017 - A Tornado Warning remains in effect until 5PM CDT for southeastern Panola and north central Shelby counties. at 432 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located 8 miles north of Tenaha, or 9 miles southeast of Carthage, moving east at 65 mph.

Source... radar indicated rotation.

Impact... flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur.  Tree damage is likely.

Tornado Watch in Effect (Update)

April 2, 2017 - (Update: 1:35) - Tornado Watch 110 is in effect until 9pm for the following counties:

Angelina, Hardin, Jasper, Nacogdoches, Newton, Sabine, San Augustine, Shelby, and Tyler


Tornado Watch 109 is in effect until 6pm for the following counties:

Angeling, Austin, Cherokee, Colorado, Gregg, Hardin, Harris, Harrison, Houston, Jasper, Liberty, Montgomery, Nacogdoches, Newton, Panola, Polk, Rusk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, Shelby, Smith, Trinity, Tyler, Walker, and Waller.

April 2, 2017 - (Update: 1:25pm) - The National Weather Service in Shreveport has issued a Tornado Warning for southern Panola County in northeastern Texas, northeastern Nacogdoches County in eastern Texas, western Shelby County in eastern Texas, northwestern San Augustine County in eastern Texas until 2PM CDT.

At 116 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Melrose, or 8 miles east of Nacogdoches, moving northeast at 45 mph.

HAZARD: Tornado.

Shelbyville, Joaquin Under Tornado Warning (Update)

April 2, 2017 - (Update: 1:25pm) - The National Weather Service in Shreveport has issued a Tornado Warning for southern Panola County in northeastern Texas, northeastern Nacogdoches County in eastern Texas, western Shelby County in eastern Texas, northwestern San Augustine County in eastern Texas until 2PM CDT.

At 116 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Melrose, or 8 miles east of Nacogdoches, moving northeast at 45 mph.

Flash Flood Watch Includes Shelby County

April 2, 2017 - A flash flood watch is in effect for all of Northwest and North Central Louisiana and portions of East Texas general south of a line from Yantis to Jefferson from 10am Sunday, April 2, 2017 to 7am Monday, April 3, 2017.

A strong springtime storm system will bring the potential for very heavy rainfall rates over a short time period. Despite the lack of recent soaking rains, the high rainfall rates could be too much for soils to handle, which may result in a threat for flash flooding today and into early Monday morning.

NWS Short Term Forecast, Lake Wind Advisory (5:46pm)

5:46pm Update: Isolated showers are expected to gradually increase this evening. Thunderstorms will also begin developing in some area, and a few storms could become strong. This activity will move to the northeast at 30 to 40 mph. 


March 29, 2017 - At 9:02am CDT, Wednesday, March 29, 2017 the National Weather Service (NWS) in Shreveport, Louisiana forecast a band of showers and isolated thunderstorms will move northeastward into the area during the mid to late morning. Gusty winds and brief heavy rain are possible.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning in Effect for Shelby County

March 24, 2017 - The National Weather Service in Shreveport has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Southwestern De Soto Parish in northwestern Louisiana, Northwestern Sabine Parish in northwestern Louisiana, and Eastern Shelby County in eastern Texas until 1015 PM CDT.

At 938 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Patroon, or 12 miles southeast of Center, moving northeast at 50 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Shelby, Surrounding Counties Under Tornado Watch

March 24, 2017 - Tornado Watch 82 in in effect until 3am March 25, 2017 for the following counties: Angelina, Cherokee, Nacogdoches, Panola, Rusk, Sabine, San Augustine and Shelby.

Strong to severe thunderstorms will move east across the area. Although damaging wind gusts main threat, tornadoes and large hail also possible. Brief but very heavy rainfall and frequent deadly lighting strikes can be expected as well.
