April 6, 2017 - Since 2003, every "First Tuesday" of the month, doctors and medical students from around the state come to the Capitol to lobby on behalf of their profession and patients. These individuals provide an invaluable service to our state and I look forward to working with them for many years to come.

March 23, 2017 - Many times the pace of the legislative session can get a little hectic. I often tell my staff that session is more like a marathon than a sprint. We well on our way through our marathon, as we have just passed the 70th day, which is the half-way point of the session.

1.  License to Carry

March 2, 2017 - Almost two months into the legislative session, the Legislature is approaching the first of many deadlines, including the last day to file most bills. As of this writing, more than 1,500 bills are filed in the Senate and more than 3,000 have been filed in the House. I expect these numbers will continue to increase during this last week of filing.

1. Homestead Exemption for Surviving Spouses

February 2, 2017 - This week marks the end of the first month of the legislative session. Senate committees are beginning to hold hearings and the Capitol is buzzing with constituent groups and association visits.

December 29, 2016 - Happy New Year! I hope your holidays were filled with family and good food. The next time you hear from me we will have begun the 85th Legislative Session, which is set to last 140 days during odd-numbered years. During this time, the Texas Legislature must pass a two-year budget as well as to address existing laws and consider new legislation. It has been an honor to serve as your state Senator since 2007, and I look forward to this next year and working together to make a difference for our state.
