January 28, 2016 - In February, we will honor George Washington, known as the "Father of our Country," on President's Day. Through his skills, leadership and longing to live in a country of free people, he laid a foundation for our country's future by building a lasting democratic institution.  

November 25, 2015 - Christmas has been a favorite holiday of mine since I was a young boy. Of course, I was lucky because I grew up in a toy factory where my father, Talley Nichols, manufactured toy cap guns.

October 29, 2015 - When I drive across the district meeting with community leaders, local elected officials and constituents, I am constantly reminded of how lucky we are to live in East Texas.

July 30, 2015 - Mark your calendars for this year's sales tax holiday, which will be August 7 - 9. The law exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced under $100 from sales and use taxes, which could save shoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend. The law also allows layaway purchases of these items to qualify for the sales tax exemption. All sellers in the state are required to honor the sales tax holiday, so it's a great time to get prepared for the upcoming school year while saving some money in the process.

June 25, 2015 - On June 14th, we commemorated the adoption of a flag with 13 stars and stripes to represent our nation and our founding colonies, with the stars set on a blue background to "represent a new constellation" in the night sky.
