Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Doubles Enchanted Rock State Natural Area with Expansion

January 14, 2025 — The Texas Hill Country is about to get more “enchanting” thanks to the recent purchase of a 3,073-acre property adjacent to Enchanted Rock State Natural Area in Llano County. This property will double the amount of publicly available land at one of Texas’ most popular state parks.

Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Causes Several Mortality Events in Texas Birds

December 23, 2024 — The National Veterinary Services Laboratories (NVSL) confirmed the presence of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in multiple locations throughout the state. Disease experts indicate that HPAI is circulating among wild birds in Texas as waterbirds and waterfowl are on their wintering grounds.

Most recent detections have been found in Wharton, Galveston, and Harris counties.

Texas Celebrates National Hunting and Fishing Day Sept. 28

September 24, 2024 – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) asks Texans to invite their friends and family into the outdoors to celebrate National Hunting and Fishing Day (NHF) on Saturday, September 28.

This annual holiday, celebrated on the fourth Saturday of September, recognizes hunters and anglers for their contributions to wildlife and conservation.
