AG Paxton Warns Gas Stations Against Fraud in Wake of Hurricane

September 1, 2017 - Attorney General Ken Paxton issued a warning to gas stations against any attempt to take advantage of Texas consumers by fraudulent action in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. The Consumer Protection Division of the attorney general’s office received more than 500 complaints Thursday, many of which involve allegations of high fuel prices in Dallas, including amounts ranging from $6-$8 dollars per gallon.

AG Paxton Files Intervention to Protect Homeowners’ Tax Cuts

August 10, 2017 AUSTIN— Attorney General Ken Paxton today intervened in a property tax lawsuit against Dumas Independent School District, stating that the district violated state law and the Texas Constitution when it reduced the district’s local option homestead exemption. Attorney General Paxton filed similar interventions against the White Deer and Kilgore Independent School Districts in September 2016.

Recent Texas Relocation Report Shows Californians Top List of Those Flocking to Texas

June 23, 2017 Austin — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton today released his assessment of the recent Texas Relocation Report, a study by the Texas Association of Realtors. In the report, Texas ranked second among states adding new residents from other states, based on the influx and outflow of people. Leading all states with the number of transplants to Texas was California. In 2015, the number of people leaving California for the Lone Star State was 65,546.

Settlement Reached with Johnson & Johnson Regarding Quality of Over-The-Counter Drugs

May 24, 2017 Austin – Attorney General Ken Paxton today announced that Texas will receive more than $2.2 million in a $33 million, 43-state settlement with pharmaceutical company Johnson & Johnson. The settlement resolves allegations that a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson sold various over-the-counter drugs to consumers, even though some manufacturing facilities did not comply with federal standards.

AG Paxton Announces $18.5 Million Settlement with Target to Resolve 2013 Data Breach

May 23, 2017 AUSTIN – Attorney General Ken Paxton today announced an $18.5 million settlement with the Target Corporation to resolve a multistate investigation into the retail company's 2013 data breach. The breach affected more than 41 million customer payment card accounts, along with contact information for more than 60 million customers. To date the settlement amount is the largest related to a data breach achieved by a multistate group.

AG Paxton: Beware Callers Posing As IRS In Tax Scam

March 21, 2017 - AUSTIN – With the April 18th income tax deadline looming, Attorney General Ken Paxton is warning Texans to be aware of a recurring tax-related scam involving unsolicited calls from people masquerading as Internal Revenue Service agents. Scam artists tell consumers that they owe back taxes and threaten to have them arrested if they don’t provide immediate payment.

AG Paxton Files Petition to Protect Texas’s Sovereignty to Regulate Texas Natural Gas Facilities

March 17, 2017 - AUSTIN – Attorney General Ken Paxton today filed a petition for review of a final rule imposed by the federal Department of Transportation's Pipeline Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA). The rule, which took effect on January 18, 2017, creates new safety standards for underground natural storage facilities, overriding the Texas Railroad Commission’s (RRC) authority.
