June 6, 2017 - ‘Talk, Text, Crash’ public awareness campaign warns drivers of the dangers of cell phone use, other distractions

Stacey Riddle knows the pain of every parent’s worst nightmare. On the way home from a spring break trip last year, her teenage daughters were killed when the car in which they were riding collided with an 18-wheeler. Brianna Robinson, 19, and Jade Robinson, 17, died when the car’s driver lost control and veered into oncoming traffic while checking her phone.

May 25, 2017 Lufkin – A pre-construction meeting held Wednesday in the Lufkin Area Office signaled the beginning of a new construction project on US 59 North in Angelina County.

May 9, 2017 – This month marks the 15th anniversary of the “Click It or Ticket” campaign urging Texans to buckle up. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that since its inception 15 years ago, our life-saving campaign has resulted in 5,068 fewer traffic fatalities. However, from 2015 to 2016, deaths among people not wearing seat belts increased 9 percent.

April 13, 2017 LUFKIN – A new construction project is scheduled to begin this week in Houston County that will rehabilitate FM 3151, west of Lovelady.

The $3.1 million project will include the reconstruction and widening of pavement on FM 3151 from FM 1280 to FM 230. The project length is 4.5 miles and the project completion date is mid-summer, weather permitting. Drewery Construction, Nacogdoches, will serve as contractor.

Final hot mix application planned

March 17, 2017 Lufkin – Motorists will see delays for the next two to three weeks as contractors prepare to place the final hot mix surface on US 59 at SL 224 in Nacogdoches. Both northbound and southbound traffic will be affected and intermittent lane closures can be expected. Once the final surface is placed and stripe applied, major construction on this project will be complete.
