TxDOT Work Planned in Lufkin District for Coming Week

April 13, 2017 LUFKIN – A new construction project is scheduled to begin this week in Houston County that will rehabilitate FM 3151, west of Lovelady.

The $3.1 million project will include the reconstruction and widening of pavement on FM 3151 from FM 1280 to FM 230. The project length is 4.5 miles and the project completion date is mid-summer, weather permitting. Drewery Construction, Nacogdoches, will serve as contractor.

Final Traffic Patterns Seen on US 59 in Nacogdoches

Final hot mix application planned

March 17, 2017 Lufkin – Motorists will see delays for the next two to three weeks as contractors prepare to place the final hot mix surface on US 59 at SL 224 in Nacogdoches. Both northbound and southbound traffic will be affected and intermittent lane closures can be expected. Once the final surface is placed and stripe applied, major construction on this project will be complete.

Texas Chosen as Testing Grounds for Automated Vehicles

U.S. Department of Transportation selects Texas as 1 of 10 testing locations for autonomous vehicle technology

February 4, 2017 AUSTIN – The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) has named Texas a national Automated Vehicle (AV) Proving Ground for the testing of connected and automated vehicle technologies. The designation establishes Texas as a leader in the research and development of new transportation technologies that could make roads safer and less congested.

Shelby County Included in Transportation Commission Approved Projects

January 31, 2017 - Lufkin District approved for six construction and maintenance projects

LUFKIN – The Texas Transportation Commission on Thursday approved construction contracts for the state that totaled $431.3 million and additional maintenance contracts, with the Lufkin District was approved for five new construction projects that totaled $6.9 million and one maintenance project for $1.2 million.

Cement Treatment Scheduled at Nacogdoches Loop

January 30, 2017 - LUFKIN – Motorists will experience delays beginning today through most of the week on US 59 South at SL 224 in Nacogdoches as work is planned to cement treat the soil for the future right turn lane for eastbound traffic on SL 224.

Webber, contractor for the $14 million construction project, will begin the treatment today through Tuesday. Traffic will be confined to one northbound lane during work hours near the intersection.

Work Scheduled Requiring Lane Closures in Several Areas

January 27, 2017 LUFKIN – Motorists traveling US 59 near SL 224 in Nacogdoches will experience delays Wednesday, February 1 when work is scheduled at the US 259 southbound exit ramp that will require a lane closure.

Ditch work is scheduled at the US 259 exit ramp and US 59 south that will require all southbound traffic to be detoured to FM 343 before being returned onto US 59. Motorists are urged to use caution and expect delays.

TxDOT Construction, Maintenance Updates: Work Scheduled for Jan 9-13

January 5, 2017 LUFKIN – TxDOT contractors are in full swing on many projects throughout the nine-county Lufkin District, as weather allows. Motorists are advised to travel through work zones with caution, reduce speed and obey all signage and/or flaggers as work continues on many maintenance and construction projects in the coming week. Delays should always be expected when traveling near work crews or heavy equipment.

Work to Begin on New Entrance at Mission Tejas State Park

December 16, 2016 LUFKIN – A pre-construction meeting was held at the TxDOT Lufkin Area Office Thursday for contractors and TxDOT officials to set start dates for work to begin on a project in Houston County that will benefit Mission Tejas State Park.

Pinto Construction, of Nacogdoches, contractor for the $750,000 construction project, is planning to begin work the first week in January, weather permitting. Completion should be late summer 2017.
